Ubisoft Dev says Valve Should Outsource Half-Life 3
In a recent interview with IGN, the community developer at the Ubisoft San Francisco branch. Dan Amrich commented on this problem. According to him, Valve might want to look towards Gearbox if they’d want to follow this path. Gearbox did handle the two expansions of the original Half Life (Blue Shift and Opposing Force), both of which were quite good and are considered canon. Then again, we all remember what happens when people outsource stuff to Gearbox these days, don’t we?
What do you guys think? good idea? bad idea? not getting done any other way?
as long as it doesn't go to ubisoft
edit
but seriously no.
NO
I would of agreed back in maybe 2008, but Gearbox lately is a horrible dev to handle Half-Life.
I don't think it's gonna happen.
If they -do- outsource a game, it should be a side title (left4dead, aliens warm, etc) and not their flagship fucking game
NO
now introducing SP micro transactions and extremely poor optimization.
Calm down you guys. it's not like valve would be bothered enough to react or respond either way.

Aliens Warm - a game where the player and up to three friends knit jumpers for arthropod aliens so that they can survive the harsh winters of their home planet.
Let's just ignore everything Ubisoft has to say for now.
Nothing bad in them handling a episode.
I wasn't aware the gearbox expansions were considered official canon (maybe by some fans...?). To the point though, Valve is a company where a certain level of quality is expected of them, outsourcing Half Life bloody 3 would be a disaster in PR and for the game itself I'm sure.
Not really sure what this ubisoft dev is trying to accomplish by saying this, other than the employee "confessionals" ubisoft devs have been suggesting some odd things in regards to other companies lately.

Pre-order Half life 3 and get the secret Gravity gun!

i'd buy it
I'd rather never see hl3
Thankfully, Ubisoft currently have no credibility, so I doubt Valve will consider this suggestion.
They should outsource it to ubisoft so they can make it a open world game with climbable towers that reveal the map like every other ubi game.

not so secret now, thanks jerk
I think it's really pathetic of Valve that other developers actually have to raise the prospect of having the game outsourced to another studio, because Valve is just ignoring all the demand and associated money that's been out there for it.
Maybe Valve should hire people with an actual interest in responding to customer demand and making money, instead of having this 'employees can work on whichever projects they like', meaning nothing ever gets done, nonsense.

you cant call half life their flag ship series anymore
Featuring 4K on Xbox One™ and PS4™
Didn't Ubisoft pull Farcry 4 and Assassins Creed from Steam recently??
The expansions aren't considered canon though?
I don't know, the writers said something weird about it being both canon and non-canon at the same time.
Imagine how shit the game would be if ubisoft did HL3
the uproar would be completely unbelievable
ubisoft has been saying a lot of really stupid things lately, and this is just another reason why I really think that if they don't massively change, they should go out of business

it's not pathetic of valve at all
it's pathetic of ubisoft considering their current reputation to suggest this
they don't have any credibility and don't exactly have any right to talk about what OTHER developers should do when they aren't even able to function correctly
People [del]are[/del] were excited for Half Life 3 because it would be made by Valve, period.
There are some good studios out there that could try it, but noone would do it justice like Valve.
So they can place blame on Valve as to why the PC version of Assassin's Creed *year here* is a buggy, glitched mess that runs like ass? No way.
.........................................I swear I read it as new version of Source engine. Still stands though I wouldn't trust Ubisoft to take out my trash, let alone make half Life 3.
Remember that time Nintendo outsourced Mario and Zelda?

I'm speechless, how would it benefit them in anyway?
I mean, if they outsourced a HL2 spinoff in the same spirit of blue shift, I would be mildly interested...
But nobody would be stupid enough to outsource a serie that shaken up entire generations of PC gamer alike, and with a legacy that big. [sp]I think I am going overboard, but still, you get the idea [/sp]
Half Life 3 made by Telltale.
Actually Telltale game that would take place in Half-Life universe could be interesting.
Actually anything that would expand and shine some more light/information about Half-Life universe would be nice.
