Windows XP, internet is connected, but still cannot browse.

Hello Facepunch. So I'm setting up a second computer right now but have run into a snag, after a while i got it to connect to the network again, which it hasn't done in a long time, but even though it is still connected to the network, it will not browse the internet. The computer is running Windows XP SP2. I have tried it on IE and Firefox but neither have worked, I've researched the problem and many people have answers but none seem to work for me. If anyone could shed some light on the problem I would be very grateful. Thanks in advance.
Try opening a command prompt and type "ipconfig /flushdns" then "ipconfig /release" followed by "ipconfig /renew"
It didn't help, both browsers still don't connect.
Open a command prompt and enter "ipconfig", what are the addresses it shows for "IPv4 Address" and "Default Gateway"?
IP is: 192.168.1.114 gateway is 192.168.1.1
Any software firewalls?
None, just windows firewall. I really have nothing on there but MSOffice and Firefox.
Disable the windows firewall and try again.
Nothing, still no connection.
Tried rebooting modem and router? Tried to ping say.. google.com? Since you're in a network, your connection to the router could be "functional", but not the router to modem and further.

Nevermind, didn't read that it was only working on one of the computers.
I did try to ping websites, but it didn't succeed.
What error do you get when you can't connect? Do you timeout, or what?
Just the generic "The page cannot be displayed" error. But it still shows that I'm connected to the network.
Open cmd and ping 209.85.225.104
If that works, then something's wrong with your dns
It worked.
That's google's ip, you could type that into your browser and it will go to google.
Anyway, to fix it you can
open cmd>services.msc>restart dhcp client
if that doesn't fix it, then you can try using another dns
Right click network>properties>manage network connections>right click local area connection>properties>Click internet protocol version 4>click use the following dns server addresses>use these numbers (they are from http://www.opendns.com/)
preferred: 208.67.222.222
alternate: 208.67.222.222
The netowrk properties don't show IPv4 as an option.
Is it only browsers that don't work?
To check, can you download windows updates?
It's pretty much nothing that works, I haven't really tried anything major, but one of the first things I tried were drivers, and not realizing that the only way to download Dell drivers was to download a downloader, the downloader, once moved to the broken computer, didn't work either.
Oh in XP it only had ipv4 so it should be just internet protocol (tcp/ip)
It won't let me set the preferred and alternate to the same value.

And when I change the alternate to something else it still won't connect.
Oh oops alternate should be 208.67.220.220
Still doesn't work, I also tried a handful of other public addresses and none work.
