The shadow chancellor told Labour's conference the party had "more work to do" to persuade people it can deliver the change he said people wanted. He said he would act swiftly after the election to reverse housing benefit cuts and boost jobs for young people. And he hinted that Labour would be prepared to accept Heathrow expansion. In his last conference address before next year's election, Mr Balls said Labour had learnt from its "past mistakes" and would not "flinch" from tough decisions if it regained power. Anticipating his first Budget, which he would be expected to deliver in the summer of 2015 if Labour was elected, Mr Balls said his priorities would be: • A rise in minimum wage • A cut in business rates • A mansion tax on properties worth over £2m • A 20-month freeze in energy bills • A Jobs guarantee for young people • A 50p top rate of income tax • Scrapping the "bedroom tax" Extending the 1% cap on child benefit rises to 2017 Mr Balls said Labour was serious about "balancing the books" in the next Parliament and would not "make any promises it cannot keep or afford".
That's a lot of promises. If Labour gets elected, Ed balls will have his back to the wall.
They should named him Dick Balls
I still think most other parties would reverse or make changes of their own similar to what Labour propose and I don't think that Labour are the party to make these changes. I still hold them as the reason for this whole coalition government thing we have going right now. Hell at this point, I don't mind if a random terrorist decided to finish what Guy Fawkes never could and blow the whole place sky high. I'd probably vote for them afterwards.
The shadow chancellor told Labour's conference the party had "more work to do" to persuade people it can deliver the change he said people wanted.
If the people wanted it then Labour wouldn't need to persuade them. The problem with Labour's promises is that they won't do a lot for not that many people while still having a massive possibly negative effect on the economy.
"I promise you will have a job" "Wow thanks Ed I feel more confident already!"
I'd be amazed if he could get me a job. Literally it's 300+ people to a single job where I live.
I'd be amazed if he could get me a job. Literally it's 300+ people to a single job where I live.
Exactly, what he's saying is pretty retarded seeing it is essentially "I will have 100% youth employment"
Exactly, what he's saying is pretty retarded seeing it is essentially "I will have 100% youth employment"
I was looking at old Labour manifestos yesterday and apparently they already got rid of youth unemployment in 2005 so I don't know what they're playing at

[editline]23rd September 2014[/editline] [sp]Seriously, it took 7 hours before that joke was made?[/sp]
