The Blue Angels, the Navy's precision flying team, will return to Bay Area skies a year from now after being grounded because of budget cuts, officials said Tuesday.
That all but assures that Fleet Week will be back - along with the earsplitting shrieks of the half-dozen F/A-18 fighter jets that wow some people, annoy others and terrify pets.

Just heard this on the TV a couple minutes ago. I feel less grateful than I thought I would be when I first heard they were gone. Our budget is more important than an airshow, but there are better things to cut back on.
Over at the reno air races, they were holding these performances later in the day, where pilots who came from groups like the blue angels, thunderbirds, and snowbirds, banded together to their own private group. They did flight demonstrations with modified Czech L-39s during the weekend. It was pretty good.
I don't think I've ever seen a jet do a stall / hammerhead turn until that day.
F/A-18 eat your heart out!!
Fucking finally. All of their air shows got canceled a few weeks before I was going to see them. Can't wait to see them again next year.

Not really, political fights aren't really anything more than a bunch of pussies smacking at each other growling and yowling.

Tried to make a pun because the thread was about the Blue Angels, guess it failed. :<
Great.... They practice above my house in the summer and rumble everything to all hell.

I've lived with things like that all my life. We live right under the flight path the nearby airforce base uses to test planes they just got done fixing, or are just trying to get flight hours into. Usually those gigantic cargo planes and the occasional fighter jet. All day. Every day.
I'd actually like to see more of the jets, those things are awesome.

I wish jets would fly over my house more, and helicopters, I love the sound.
Oh yeah, we get helicopters, too but not military. Usually it's careflight going to the nearest hospital.
I think they get clearance to fly in the flightpath, or at least really close to it.

So wait, you're complaining about seeing free blue angel shows at your house?
Last summer, I was staffing at a military base up in northern Quebec. They housed some of Canada's CF-18 Hornets, so naturally we had them flying above us most days doing their routine flights and touch-and-go's. Two really cool things that I witnessed:
One day, as I was walking out from my instruction tent that opened into a little clearing, I suddenly saw a Hornet fly directly over me as it was taking off again from the runway (so pretty much less than 75ft).
On one of our last days in the summer, we all had a formal ball down at the other end of the base. A bunch of us were talking outside, when one of my friends noticed a formation of four Hornets flying towards our direction, though they were high up (flying in a typical diamond formation). We thought it would be funny, so we all tried waving at them to get their attention (which we thought would never work). Turns out that it must have, because they dipped suddenly so they were almost dangerously low, and as they reached our position the two on the side of their formation broke away, and the back went nose-up and climbed above the rest. We were all going crazy at this point, obviously.
One of the best summers of my life.
I live about a mile from Luke airforce base so I get to deal with screaming F-16s all day

yeah it's great the first few days but when you're being woken up at 8 in the morning on a Sunday during bombing practice and when recreational pilots flying T6 Texans are buzzing your neighborhood, it's not that great.

Over My House or area The german Luftwaffe often flys Tornados at night With afterburner and also NH90 Night flights where i get To See The green illuminated Cockpit its a great sight.
So wait, you're complaining about seeing free blue angel shows at your house?
After seeing it for years it just gets loud and annoying. You can hardly even hold a conversation those fuckers are loud.
im not like raging or anything. Just sometimes annoying.

I loved the Reno Air Races, I would go to them every year when I still lived in California. Those guys in the L-39's are the Patriots Jet Team if I am not mistaken.
Woo! As a JROTC cadet who's seen these guys in action, this is welcome news to my ears.
Seriously, if you haven't seen these guys at work, you need to get to an air show. Nice to see they are back.

thank you for your service
I almost got to see them at an airshow in oklahoma. Them and Shockwave, the plane-racing semi truck.
Instead though, we got shockwave JR, and a rocket assisted takeoff of a cargo plane.
I mean, it was cool, but the brochure said the blue angels were doing formation flying.
This is great news, my brother is aspiring to get into the air force and these guys are one of the reasons he was looking forward to it in the first place. (Even if its Navy and not AF)
I fully endorse any situation where more F-18's fly. Godamn they're a pretty jet.
I'd love to see jets in person but the last time a jet flew low over NYC it didn't go so well
That's nice to hear. I thought they were gonna be grounded forever.
I really wish that when its budget cut time, they stop cutting the most public things. I hate when they go "oh less money? lets cancel the fun stuff, all the morale boosters and keep everything else completely unchanged to protest."
