A Banksy artwork has been removed from a wall just hours after it was tracked down to a Bristol street. To be entirely fair, Banksy pieces are known for being vandalized. If it was moved to some sort of safer building (the article says it was in a rougher area of town, and it was moved to a youth center), then it's being protected from vandals. That's a good thing.
"to prevent any vandalism or damage being done" You fucking twats, you've ignored the whole point! You've vandalised it yourselves, and it's not like his stuff hasn't been vandalised before. That and you've got the gall to ask for a "small donation" for your club? I mean, yes they're in financial trouble, but do they have the right to take someone else's art and show it off for their financial gain?
i don't think these people understand what a donation is

I'd also like to take a moment to point out that tearing down street art and moving it to a museum space is nothing new. The Louvre has, in the past, had plasters from Renaissance artists. Plasters are walls.
Wow. It's a public art piece, not a gift to your club.
Hahahaha they're even asking for money to come see the Banksy piece.
Read the article Its heavily implied that "Banksy" did it to help them out with there struggling fundraiser for there group.
Leader of the youth group Dennis Stinchcombe, also explained he had been urged to take the piece down by a friend of the elusive graffiti artist. The 58-year-old added: 'I was approached by somebody who knows Banksy very well. 'He's an artist himself and he said 'you need to take that Dennis, get it into that club - it's what it is meant for'

Wow. It's a public art piece, not a gift to your club.
Technically, it's illegal graffiti and the door is the club's property, so they're entirely in their right to do so.
Thats an awesome piece.
Thats an awesome piece.
That's what banksy creates, it's all seriously awesome and thought provoking. But by god, if people aren't stealing / removing his works, it hasn't been a good day for them :v:
Technically, it's illegal graffiti and the door is the club's property, so they're entirely in their right to do so.
It's funny how the distinction can be greyed in proportion to the quality of the graffiti. I would classify it as art, but, that's just me.
It's funny how the distinction can be greyed in proportion to the quality of the graffiti. I would classify it as art, but, that's just me.
Oh, it's undoubtedly art. But it's painted on someone else's property without their knowledge or consent. That makes it illegal graffiti.
How does anyone even know that Banksy did it? It looks worse than his usual stuff, and the club thinks they can use it to make money. Also, the Daily Mail is really grasping at straws with that whole Tony Blair thing.
How does anyone even know that Banksy did it? It looks worse than his usual stuff
looks great to me, brilliant message too.
snippo
Yes and they're so nice to allow us folks to see it. From the way they said it, you don't have to pay anything. It's just sort of heavily suggested.
what a bunch of pricks.
looks great to me, brilliant message too.
it's an arful piece but the messages are always so bafflingly shallow. The same tired "look up from your phone, your life is in front of you" garbage has been passed around since before old people shifted from chain mails to facebook shares
At least it doesn't say "The new Banksy piece was taken to the auction house to be sold for £250,000"
Yes and they're so nice to allow us folks to see it. We just gotta pay the fee to see a piece of graffiti now
"you are free to come and see it but a small donation will be asked of you" saying that they're charging to see it is like saying that salvation army santas are charging you for entrance to walmart during christmas time
Better it being put somewhere safe where people can still than sold at auction never to be seen again.
Shallowness is entirely subjective.
his work is like yellow journalism. It's presented in a way that garners interest, but the facts aren't much more than telling you what you already know I'm always one to be enthusiastic about artistry and interpretation but banksy intentionally turns things into a circus. His art lies in presentation and reaction, not the message between.

If Banksy cared about it being vandalized he wouldn't have painted it on a street wall. Sounds like they literally stole it to try and make money off it.
