The first two-dimensional bar codes, or QR codes, as they're known, were installed on Friday at Arpoador, a massive boulder that rises at the end of Ipanema beach. The image was built into the pavement with the same black and white stones that decorate pavements around town with mosaics of waves, fish and abstract images.

The city plans to install 30 of these QR codes at beaches, vistas, and historic sites, so Rio's approximately two million foreign visitors can learn about the city as they walk around.
I have mixed feelings about this.
I don't get why people have them when you can just visit a website anyway.
This is bloody stupid, what about people who don't have phones that can read a QR code, don't they miss out? What happened to those old stands that had information written below some transparent plastic?
Just tried it with my phone and this is the address - rio.ai/kfb

"Innovation" (As some people call it.)
My Nokia apparently isn't modern enough for QR codes.
That's very cool! My city has QR codes all over the place in the historic areas (parts of it are over 150 years old).

Any device with a camera and the ability to run custom programs (be they "apps" or old .jar appalets) can use QR codes. My Nokia 3600 could, I just had to find a program first.
More reason to walk around whilst looking at the floor and your phone.
Portugal were the first ones to do this:

It's an interesting idea that has cultural roots behind it.

That isnt even a valid QR code. Its missing too much data.
Also the reason the barcodes are there is that you scan it and then it automatically takes you to the site, saving you time.

Could it be different vx code?
Or it's difficult to recognize the code from a photo?

It's easier to grab a QR tag with a phone than a normal full text URL. They are also more space efficient than full text and can be much smaller while retaining easy readability.
