I'm delighted to announce that Steve Huffman, founder and the original reddit CEO, is returning as CEO. We are thankful for Ellen’s many contributions to reddit and the technology industry generally. She brought focus to chaos, recruited a world-class team of executives, and drove growth. She brought a face to reddit that changed perceptions, and is a pioneer for women in the tech industry. She will remain as an advisor to the board through the end of 2015. I look forward to seeing the great things she does beyond that. We’re very happy to have Steve back. Product and community are the two legs of reddit, and the board was very focused on finding a candidate who excels at both (truthfully, community is harder), which Steve does. He has the added bonus of being a founder with ten years of reddit history in his head. Steve is rejoining Alexis, who will work alongside Steve with the new title of “cofounder”.
Hip hip! Hooray!
Fucking thank god
Honestly, I'm quite surprised this actually happened, considering how many "casual Internet users" Reddit has now that only care about AskReddit etc. and not the site politics.
Wow. The Slacktivists actually managed to oust her... This is going to go to their head, isn't it?
We are thankful for Ellen’s many contributions to reddit and the technology industry generally
Which?
She brought focus to chaos
Got that backwards.
pioneer for women in the tech industry
This one's a bit iffy too.
That article gives her so much credit for things she's never done?
So weird to think of Reddit as a business with a CEO n shit.
Which? Got that backwards. This one's a bit iffy too.
What are you talking about? Sleeping with a married man and using it for blackmail is totally advancing women's place in the tech industry.
Look mom, internet petitions do work! But in all seriousness, I think that although a lot of the hate was exaggerated, she wan't a good fit for the culture of the site as a whole. The CEO of a company shouldn't be at such deep odds with its consumers, it's just not good business.
Hell yeah, about time. Best thing for Reddit. Something about ding-dongs and a dead witch.
So weird to think of Reddit as a business with a CEO n shit.
Most people on Reddit think it's weird too. I still remember lots of TIL threads popping up claiming it was a big discovery. It's amazing how disconnected Reddit is to the company that owns it. They never meet and barely talk.
So absolutely nothing is going to change but people will pretend it did because they don't want to understand how businesses work.
So absolutely nothing is going to change but people will pretend it did because they don't want to understand how businesses work.
Except the returned CEO was a founder of Reddit and was in charge at the beggining of it's peak to popularity. Reddit under Pao drove away communities, made zero progress in investment and changed policy that shut down some awful subreddits and left other equally awful open. She was sort of Starpluck, in that regard :v: I mean, at worse things will just remain as they always were rather than a lot of sudden, bitter changes.
So absolutely nothing is going to change but people will pretend it did because they don't want to understand how businesses work.
They got a super shady, incredibly unliked, controversial CEO to resign and replaced with somebody who has proven previously to be competent at the job. Very few people liked her. It's clearly shown that people are/were unhappy with the reddit changes and they were starting to have an effect.
Fucking finally.
So absolutely nothing is going to change but people will pretend it did because they don't want to understand how businesses work.
Yes because clearly CEO's are just figure heads that make no real executive decisions what so ever, furthermore absolutely nothing controversial happened under the figured headness of Ellen Pao. Seriously go peddle your shit else where.
I am sure Reddit is saved now, and the chief issue spanning several years had everything to do with the two short months of Ellen Pao's tenure.
We did it. Now to see if Reddit will actually be fixed under this management.
I'm glad the founder is back!
i sincerely doubt this will change much but still get fucking wrecked, ellen pao
I am sure Reddit is saved now, and the chief issue spanning several years had everything to do with the two short months of Ellen Pao's tenure.
She sure did radically break a lot of things. Introducing the whole "family friendly" concept initiation.
I am sure Reddit is saved now, and the chief issue spanning several years had everything to do with the two short months of Ellen Pao's tenure.
What 'cheif issue' was that, exactly?
She sure did radically break a lot of things. Introducing the whole "family friendly" concept initiation.
More importantly, the amount of shadowbans that happened during her stay went up tenfold. A system made to never be used against regular users.

If you want to pretend otherwise go right ahead but expect people who actually know the first thing about business to call you delusional, because you are.
CEOs don't actually do anything but PR
YEUP TOTALLY [editline]a[/editline] I seriously wish ratings were open again just for you. You really have no idea what a CEO is.
Like it or not, no, CEOs don't actually do anything but PR, they're a marketing tool for when things go well, and a scapegoat for when they go bad. PR is only a part of their job.

I have a feeling this will be used as propaganda towards more feminist stuff
