It is a media server ?
"HP MediaSmart Server EX490 (1 TB, Intel Celeron 2.2 GHz, 2GB DDR2 DRAM)" i guess
no, you should instead rent a server from a datacenter for a monthly rate.
It would be ABLE to run it, but after 5 players and several multiplications of 25 props it would probably lag out the ass. Not to mention the bandwidth problems you also need to solve.
If your upload speed is good, yes. It's plenty.

It's expensive for what you're getting. Just build a server.
my average upload speed is like 6 MB/S .. on µtorrent.
lol i had 50 mbps and it lagged hosting UT04
lol i had 50 mbps and it lagged hosting UT04
mb=/=MB not to mention 50mps was probably your download speed

so can someone tell me the answer plz :3
No; you'd run into bandwidth issues with only 6 Megs up after you get a decent amount of props moving around in the server.

If you really have 6 MB/s upload, you'll do fine. The server is more than enough.
Garry's Mod seems to be a little more intensive from my experience.
gmod is 515RAM
gmod is 515RAM
you really shount be hosting a server Just rent one from a datacenter
Actual 6 megabytes per second upload is way, way more than enough for even a 16 slot Garry's Mod server, and 4GB of RAM is overkill. http://planethalflife.gamespy.com/View.php?view=HL2Guides.Detail&id=4&game=3 Depending on your client's rate setting, you could, theoretically, host a 320 player server with each player having a rate of 20000.

You can't just hook up a server to the internet and expect to get 50 players or so, you need the bandwidth. If you are planning on doing this from home, you need a bloody good internet connection if you are going to be able to host over 10 players. Also ISPs do not like you do that anyway. Edited: Could you also do a speed test at www.speedtest.net rather than relying on a utorrent upload speed you had a while ago, just so we can see
OP are you thinking of buying that computer or do you already have it? £524 for a Celeron with 2GB of RAM is a ripoff of unholy proportions.

I recommend you learn something about computers before you get a server.
Uh gmod needs about 2 gb at most 1 gb - then you have the OS 4GB for a gmod server is good
That doesn't take into account Garry's Mod, which uses absolute shit tons of bandwidth for sending out networked props every tick. I could handle at 10mbps up around 10 players with minimal lag, and that was hosting the server on the same box that I was playing Gmod on. I figure you'll do fine, but that's about it as far as players go. Anything larger than that and you start getting connection problems and high ping problems.
If he is getting 6MB/s up in uTorrent, he has a 50mbit connection. Bandwidth will not be an issue.
Additionally, that's a Windows Home Server. Low power, large hard drives and running the Windows Home Server software. For that price you could buy a few cheap parts, install Ubuntu/Arch/CentOS/Some other Linux OS and still come out with a decent server. Please do some reading on the Garry's Mod wiki. I can run a server somewhat from my 2.8 GHz P4 with 512 MB RAM, though due to my 1 megabit upload speed I can only have a few friends on before it tops out. I suggest getting a snappy AMD dual core, 2 GB of RAM and use a motherboard with integrated video (You don't need video output for the server once it's fully setup, a GPU in a server doesn't help speed at all).
I'll steal this topic for a second with a similar question. I'm also interested in running a Garry's Mod server and I wonder how many slots I could run on this machine and how well: 2x Old Intel Xeon (single-core) with 2.4GHz each or so 3GB DDR RAM (mby DDR3, no idea) 4x SCSI HDD's ~90 mbit upload
