Octavio Contreras. Sergio Madrigal. This has been the bloodiest year since 1998 when it comes to drug violence here in the state of Michoacan. For Miguel Patiño Velazquez, a 75-year-old bishop with a white frock and dark circles under his eyes, it is time to speak out. The bishop has criticized drug gangs by name, supported village vigilantes and demanded that the government restore order. Where other church fathers have spoken in generic terms about the violence, the bishop has been bold, leading the Catholic Church into the heart of the public debate. “Now is the moment to be one voice for our poor people, for our society,” he said. But his stance has also put the bishop in the crosshairs of his enemy — a drug mafia whose leader, Nazario Moreno, has his own brand of fervent followers. Moreno is known variously as “El Chayo” and “The Craziest One.” He may or may not be dead. He is the cult-like figurehead of the Knights Templar, which claims to be the righteous defender of the peasantry against a corrupt government. Knights Templar members have been known to wear ceremonial white cloaks with red crosses and to spread Moreno’s religious writings as gospel. Hundreds of them used to convene to hear their leader’s multi-hour sermons. But they are also brutal killers and methamphetamine dealers who extort everyone from big corporations to street vendors throughout Michoacan, according to residents and government officials.
Sounds like something out of the Fallout series.
This is what I thought when I read the title. :v:
Knights Templar is a pretty badass name, regardless of the terrible shit they've done.
this bishop was an assassin, obviously
this bishop was an assassin, obviously
Apostle's Creed?
Apostle's Creed?
A somewhat related follow-up to this. -That's Pope Francis. The Wind blew up from behind him and for a second it looks like he's wearing a hood.
Next he should go for the Kingpin.

It's unlikely he'll get killed. Most cartels don't have the guts to kill clergymen, but I'm not to sure about the Knights Templar.
It's unlikely he'll get killed. They went as far as to start executing priests and church-goers in the streets in order to scare the faithful into renouncing their faith or into leaving the country. One of the people they killed was just a kid; they made him watch one of his own friends hang to convince him to give up his faith. Despite this, he refused, and was shot. You don't hear a lot about it nowadays, because the Mexican government quite frankly regrets it and doesn't like to talk about it. I hear they hardly ever teach it in the history books over there anymore. Anyways, the Cartels nowadays have a frightening amount of power, the only reason they're still running amok is because they've integrated themselves into the government. Given the cult-like nature of this particular cartel, they might see the clergy as an "impure" version of their own beliefs and might try to remove it like the Federeales did in the Christero war. Coupled with the politicians they might have in their pockets, it becomes a rather grim possibility. (It's times like this I wish there really was a Brotherhood of Assassins, the Cartels are a real-life version of the types of baddies you'd see in those games.)
