Tony Abbott seeks alliance to thwart President Obama on climate change policy
Tony Abbott is seeking a conservative alliance among "like-minded" countries, aiming to dismantle global moves to introduce carbon pricing, and undermine a push by US President Barack Obama to push the case for action through forums such as the G20.
Visiting Ottawa for a full day of talks with the conservative Canadian Prime Minister and close friend Stephen Harper, Mr Abbott flagged intentions to build a new centre-right alliance led by Canada, Britain and Australia along with India and New Zealand.
All five Commonwealth countries now have "centre-right"-leaning governments but it is Mr Abbott's personal and philosophical closeness to Mr Harper that the Prime Minister regards as most important.
The combined front would attempt to counter recent moves by the Obama administration to lift the pace of climate change abatement via policies such as a carbon tax or state-based emissions trading. It is a calculated attempt to push back against what both leaders see as a left-liberal agenda in favour of higher taxes, unwise interventions to address global warming, and an unhealthy attitude of state intervention.
Mr Abbott's first visit to the US has begun on a shaky note after he characterised Mr Obama’s new push to reduce carbon pollution as a copy of ''direct action'' being pursued in Australia. Mr Abbott is due in New York on Monday local time.
Australia: Now a world leader in regressionism.
What in the everloving fuck is wrong with that prick
The axis of evil is assembling once again.

He's a puppet to industry.
And a moron.
C'mon guys, can't you see that coal is the way of the future /s
I thought the Liberal Govt loved to follow the Americans closely. I guess not in this case.
Abbott is giving excuses to avoid talking about climate change with other leaders, except those who fall under the category conservative or prefer profits over sustainability, because they do not care about such things to begin with. We have a environmental minister in parliament who got told to do nothing at all, so that the liberals can reverse the carbon tax without any opposition.
Abbott is another one of those leaders who could not care less about the next generations of society, who would rather pull everything out underneath you and expect you to pay higher prices for living costs without helping you at all.
He also wants to reduce the amount of national parks we have around the country and to gradually destroy the Great Barrier Reef by dredging it so that more ships can get to Abbot Point (north of Bowen, QLD) to ship more money (and natural resources) offshore.

He's a terrible human being who literally seems to think the climate doesn't exist.
How has this fuckstick not been assassinated yet holy shit

i'm fairly sure no australian prime minister has ever been assassinated
but fuck, abbott would be a great starter for that
This.. I..
Hmmm.
this government truly scares me.
Why would you do this? All you're doing is shooting yourself (and your country) in the foot for short term profit

I don't know how I would react if Abbott was assassinated. I guess relief more than sadness. I can't imagine how many people he is going to indirectly kill with cuts to health and bullshit inclusions of chaplains in schools, among other things.
If Abbott was assassinated I wouldn't feel happy nor sad
But honestly I am betting a few bucks that Liberals have a leadership spill sometime this year

Malcolm turnbull hehe i'd rather him to be honest doesn't talk like a retard
Tbh, Abbott won against Turnbull by a single fucking vote so it's hardly gonna be a surprise that Turnbull will win if the party leadership is ever contested.
I'm surprised that the Nationals still give supply to Liberal. Although I'm pretty sure that the Nationals would agree with Abbott on climate change, there have been things like the free-trade agreements with Japan and South Korea which I don't think they supported very much, and maybe the re-indexation of fuel excise tax.
For people outside of Australia, our government at the moment isn't actually a single party but a Coalition of the Liberals and Nationals. If a split between the two were to ever occur, governance would entirely be in the hands of Labor (our House of Reps is consistently composed of a plurality of Labor MPs) unless either the Liberal or Nationals party were to fall. Well maybe that's why the Nationals hang on, because they still get a little say plus cabinet positions.

People always say that Turnbull wouldn't be any better, but why? I reckon Turnbull would be a great Prime Minister, irrespective of party. He stood with Labor for an emissions trading scheme as well, so he at least gives more of a shit about the environment than Abbott.
The sad thing is our own prime minister will fully support this.

Harper's days are limited.

As someone who's never preferenced a Coalition candidate above a Labor candidate, who goes to public university, who works part-time, who receives rent assistance from the government, who doesn't have private healthcare, I would never advocate for the assassination of a Coalition PM (or any other member of parliament). The fact that there are people out there who have the mentality that it's not only okay, but 'great' to assassinate someone they disagree with scares me more than any change that Abbott or his Ministry would ever introduce.

I'll quote your avatar and say I don't want to live on this planet anymore.

Lol so the American is actually the more progressive of the bunch? Pinch me I'm dreaming.
So Tony Abbott and Stephen Harper are best buddies?
Given what I've heard about Abbott, that somehow doesn't surprise me.
Lol so the American is actually the more progressive of the bunch? Pinch me I'm dreaming.
In some ways yes, but in many other ways no. It's more like our government is as far left as it can realistically go whereas the commonwealth's governments are as far right as they can realistically go.
