:siren: ok, so I figured it must be the PSU that's the problem, decided to buy a new one. I just got a new GPU today from a friend, GTX 275, I installed it and put in both 6-pin power connections. My PSU, CoolMax 600watt, only had one 6-pin so I had to buy 2x4-pin to 6-pin adapter for the second power connection. When I turn the computer everything appears to work, CPU fan, case fan, motherboard lights, and the GPU fan but my monitor is not displaying any video. I'm pretty stumped on what is wrong. Should mention my previous GPU was an ATI 4670.
How are you connecting to your monitor? (VGA, HDMI, etc.) Is it the same way you connected to it before?
yeah same connection as before, I'm using a DVI to VGA since my monitor is only VGA.
If you have more than one video output on the card try them all
I did that. None of them worked, I found a DVI to HDMI adapter to see if the DVI to VGA crapped out. [editline]10:23PM[/editline] I'll be hooking it up to my TV.
I have a VGA port on my TV
I do too apparently, I'll try both connections. [editline]10:29PM[/editline] wait, I never uninstalled my ATI drivers... Would that be causing the problem?
You said you didn't get any image, did you get an image in bios?
I get nothing at all. Monitor just displays "no video" then goes blank. [editline]10:33PM[/editline] Is the card dead?
Then it's not a driver problem
The problem must be the card then...
Or the cord you're using. [editline]05:36AM[/editline] You should take it to the store and see what they say [editline]05:37AM[/editline] Or friend w/e
But the cord worked perfectly with my 4670. [editline]10:38PM[/editline] I have another PCI-E slot, should I plug in into there and see what happens?
Do so, but if you plugged the the new graphics card into the old cards slot I don't see why it shouldn't work.
Card is broken and your computer will start up normally even if the graphics card is bad. /thread
I can take to Frys this weekend to see what is going in but I rather not pay someone since I'm cheap. And I would ask my friend but he sent it from Florida and he just got himself perma'd...
Ouch
And I can't talk to him on Steam since my Internet is down so I have post from my phone. [editline]10:57PM[/editline] well, just fixed my internet and he said this: fox: "it works fine here, I ran sli, and I think this was the main card. everything worked before i sent it. I used a vga to dvi connecter, not sure what DVI slot, but it didnt work if i did it a certain way." Skinny: ok [editline]11:00PM[/editline] fox = whatnow v2
that fucking sucks man
Try pressing buttons on your monitor.
Oh that must suck. You could try to connecting to an HD tv if you have a spare hdmi cable and if your graphics card supports it.
[QUOTE=Lemonator;23398972]Try pressing buttons on your monitor.[/QUOTE] That does nothing. [editline]12:09AM[/editline] That was first thing I did. [editline]12:10AM[/editline] [QUOTE=loco;23398987]Oh that must suck. I have a similar one, do you have the extra power cords that fit on the side plugged in?
Do you have a shiny little bios peaker? It should shout out loudly if something isn't connected properly. Try cleaning the PCIe-slot with a vacuum cleaner..
[QUOTE=WeltEnSTurm;23400939]Try cleaning the PCIe-slot with a vacuum cleaner..[/QUOTE]Actually try using compressed air can. Hmm. It could have been damaged in mail transit..not sure though.
Do you have another friend nearby who doesn't mind you testing the card in their motherboard?
[QUOTE=WeltEnSTurm;23400939]Do you have a shiny little bios peaker? It should shout out loudly if something isn't connected properly. Try cleaning the PCIe-slot with a vacuum cleaner..[/QUOTE] DO NOT use a fucking vacuum cleaner. Static Electricity Galore.
I just got home, going to do some trials and see what is going on. I'm going to get some spare parts I left at my parent's house. I got a motherboard and another GPU I can test with. [editline]12:50PM[/editline] I tried the other PCI-E slots and those didn't work. and the motherboard does have a speaker and it isn't beeping.
Ouch makol! Did you remove all ATI software before installing the Nvidia card? Did you read the instructions before plugging in the power cord? [b]A lot of cards do not support the use of two 4-Pin to one 6-Pin power cable converters. They are only designed to work with high perfomance power supplies using 6-Pin PCI Express power cable.[/b]
yea my firend/fox/whatnow v2 and I figured that out. I'm planning on buying a PSU that has two 6-pins. made a thread for it, [url]http://www.facepunch.com/showthread.php?t=971263[/url] right now I went back to the 4670 until I get this worked out.
