Roy Moore in 2011: Getting rid of amendments after 10th would 'eliminate many problems'
(CNN)Alabama Republican Senate nominee Roy Moore appeared on a conspiracy-driven radio show twice in 2011, where he told the hosts in an interview that getting rid of constitutional amendments after the Tenth Amendment would 'eliminate many problems' in the way the US government is structured.
Alabama's special election for Senate, in which Moore is facing Democrat Doug Jones, will be held Tuesday. Moore's controversial views on a variety of subjects -- including homosexuality, Islam, and evolution -- have come into sharper focus in the final days of the campaign, even as Moore has had to deal with multiple accusations from women who say that he sexually assaulted or pursued relationships with them as teenagers when he was in his 30s. Moore has denied all allegations.
Moore also faced criticism for comments he made in September at a campaign rally. According to the Los Angeles Times, when asked by a black member of the audience when he thought the last time America was great, Moore answered, "I think it was great at the time when families were united — even though we had slavery — they cared for one another. Our families were strong, our country had a direction."
Moore made his comments about constitutional amendments in a June 2011 appearance on the "Aroostook Watchmen" show, which is hosted by Maine residents Jack McCarthy and Steve Martin. The hosts have argued that the US government is illegitimate and who have said that the September 11, 2001, attacks, the mass shooting at Sandy Hook, the Boston bombing, and other mass shootings and terrorist attacks are false flag attacks committed by the government. (False flag attacks refer to acts that are designed by perpetrators to be made to look like they were carried out by other individuals or groups.)
The hosts have also spread conspiracy theories about the raid that led to the death of Osama Bin Laden and have pushed the false claim that former President Barack Obama was not born in the US.
And he wants to be on the judiciary committee if he wins.
Ok wow I could have argued "yeah but he just mentioned it as a despite" to his first slavery comment, to maybe give him the benefit of doubt, but him saying something like this is just hilariously indefensible. There is no room here for doubts, this is straight up a scumfuck ridiculous thing to hear.
The inevitable defense of this will be "but he didn't specify he wanted to allow slavery again so that's kinda rude for you all to assume of him".
If you vote for this man, you are fucked in the head.

Anything to excuse the inexcusable
The fact he even has a chance of winning (nevermind that he probably will...) is pretty depressing.

"He just doesn't like big government! He wants to respect state rights and leave women's rights and slavery up to the states! Because that worked so well last time."
He's literally getting worse and worse publicly yet he's even in the poll, if not, going up.
What the fuck is going on with my country.

To be fair, the people voting for him probably only watch Fox News, so they're not seeing this sort of news.
On the other hand, not only do they watch Fox News, they only watch Fox News.
so yeah we're still a nation full of fuckheads

I think it goes further than most people realize. All of their news comes from Fox. All of their opinions come from baptist church gossip. Anyone who's children either aren't homeschooled or sent to private schools are a minority. They all believe in very black and white morality, so they won't even think to question that they could be so far in the wrong. The republican tribalism is completely over the edge.
The biggest outcome of this is that nobody knows the facts. Abortion always means partial birth abortion or third trimester abortion to them. They think that healthcare is as expensive everywhere as it is in america, so of course they get upset by the idea of paying for it all through taxes. By the time we're poised to lose these amendments, church gossip will have reduced it to something like a plan to cut down bureaucratic overspending and voting fraud. None of them know what these amendments are anyway. Why care when the only other choice kills babies? I grew up in this bubble. It's insulated to the point that they're starved of oxygen.

Here in my hometown, there's a billboard that literally states a number of infants killed every year, and then it says: "The Democracts call it 'abortion'. I call it MURDER" - God
This billboard has been up since at least the beginning of Obama's presidency as best as I can recall.
And around Obama's second election a billboard was put up across the street from my apartment (more of a sign than a full-fledged billboard) that mentions Nov. 8th and says "VOTE REPUBLICAN! DO IT!"
No reasons given, just "Hey it's voting day, VOTE REPUBLICAN! DO IT!"
It's since been altered (either on purpose or via vandalism, hard to say) with a shitty application of black duck tape to say "VOTE! U CAN DO IT!", which was bizarre to say the least...
And in a nearby town, there was a banner hanging from the side of a store as you drove in saying in huge letters "WE DON'T TRUST YOU HILLARY!".
On top of that, many people I've spoken to seem far more concerned about "welfare leeches" and their gun rights than any other political topic.
So yeah, I, too, know all to well how well insulated the bubble can be.
The President of the United States personally and enthusiastically endorses a child molester who argues in favor of reinstating slavery, removing voting rights from minorities and women, and gutting the judicial authorities of the federal court system. There is no longer any moral gray zone here: anybody who still stands in alliance with Donald Trump, Roy Moore, and the GOP's administration is either evil or deluded.

and the other amendments relating to how the president is elected, replaced, and how long they're allowed to serve
and the other amendments relating to how the president is elected, replaced, and how long they're allowed to serve
Naturally, yeah. Very concerning stuff, considering who is endorsing this guy. While there may be viable arguments for why those particular amendments could stand revision, however, there are none for the amendments I called out in my post. We can debate, on honest moral footing, how many terms a president should be allowed to serve, or the specifics of how our electoral process should work, but there is no defense for arguing that voting rights should be revoked along gender, racial, ethnic, or religious lines, nor is there any defense whatsoever for arguing that slavery would be a good thing to bring back. Moore implying that we'd be better off without those amendments is not just politically ridiculous, but morally outrageous.
oh boy here comes 20 terms Trump here to turn America into KKK: the musical.
I hate 2017 can we go back to 2015 where the only bad thing was celebrities dying?
This is in fact, incorrect.

What's the truth of this then?

No what I'm saying is that "Getting rid of amendments after 10th would 'eliminate many problems" is just... Incorrect...

It would eliminate some problems for the Republicans. Like women voting, black people voting, taxes, give senators the ability to change their own salaries, and let existing senators choose the new senators.
2016: politics can't possibly fall lower than trumpism
2017: senator who believes slavery was a good thing and wants to bring it back is set to win senate seat

A guy running for the florida senate as republican in 2018, Augustus Sol Invictus, was a speaker at charlottesville, believes in eugenics, and admitted to sacrificing a goat and drinking its blood to express thanks. Doubt he'll win the primary but still :wideeye:
With a name like that how could he not win?

he also wants to start a second civil war
"I have prophesied for years that I was born for a Great War; that if I did not witness the coming of the Second American Civil War I would begin it myself. Mark well: That day is fast coming upon you. On the New Moon of May, I shall disappear into the Wilderness. I will return bearing Revolution, or I will not return at all."
