Thought this was pretty cool. Note this is 100% fanmade.
on the topic of planetside, I love the idea but the game is 100% bullshit. I, as a new player, cannot fucking kill anyone. Even in the "beginner" areas. I get off 1 shot before being blasted away by some jackass. vid's cool tho.

I wouldn't even say is p2w because a lot of the gear is balanced out, so even if you spend money its well...
The only thing I don't like is that infiltrators who play point and click from 400 meters away have the ability to instantly kill you with very little warning. It really puts a hamper on my mood when I'm having fun shooting other guys and this person with his .50 caliber rifle/super laser gun can instantly kill me while he is a blob of 10 pixels on my screen.
Man that video started out so well, then they deviated from the official lore and it went to shit. Still very pretty. Sidenote: If you like videogame lore I recommend searching up the Planetside 2 lore
Tried it for some time, although the scale of battles are really impressive from a technical and gameplay standpoint, most of the time it felt like there was just too much going on at once without any real sense of actual achievement even after longer periods of non-stop ruthless battle. That's what the footage from the video reminded me anyway. Has to be one of the points why some people like the game tho, right next to working as a team with a bunch of friends.

Frankly the only way you can hit some one in the head at that range is if the person is standing still.
Infantry don't even render out to 400m
What a weird accent
the biggest problem i had with the game was the fact that its about as deep as a small pond. I heard someone use the saying 'thousand miles wide, one foot deep' as the description for elite:dangerous, and PS2 is in the same boat imo. The gunplay and general tactics of the game is generally 'more numbers == you win' and thats basically it, there is no real meta and nothing to really learn about the game, all you do is join a zerg or a large outfit and just push something until it falls, or get spawn camped. Many shooters have different ways in which you approach situations, in counter-strike you go slow and need to account for many things, in arma you have to keep track of things like your stamina and your equipment to keep yourself fighting fit, even in battlefield a sufficiently skilled player can stall an offensive 1v5 using smart positioning and the right tools. In PS2, thanks to the high time-to-kill, questionable hit detection, and ever-present unbalanced teams, the only meta you really get in PS2 is 'overwhelm enemy position with sheer numbers, zerg at it until you capture it.' Even all that set side, I think the games art is fairly lack-luster with the entire world being populated with cookie-cutter buildings (yes I know its canon but its still boring) and all the faction guns looking basically identical.
It fits that perfectly. If you're not one of those people that can find value in grinding for those directives and just upping your stats there's really no reason to keep going and there's little to actually do or worry about. [editline]16th March 2015[/editline] Just sucks that they intentionally went in the opposite direction and chose not to make a true sequel.
They're "working on it"

"They sought peace, but started a war - they're bad. Oh, but we found remaining technology of an ancient extinct race, we'll ascend humanity - THROUGH WAR!". But yeah, the lore was butchered terribly. [editline]17th March 2015[/editline]
It fits that perfectly.
I personally like playing and having fun with a shit ton of different people. I don't give terrible amounts of shit about metagame. But since SOE was moving steadily towards redeployside that we have now and completely got rid of any kind of downtime between battles, it has been going less fun for me. It became tiring, one of my favorite parts of the game was no more - there's no opportunity now to mess around while on the move to the next base. Squad/Platoon/outfit lead just orders everyone to redeploy if they care for having any impact on the battlefield.
Can't hear you over the might of Vanu.
That's just 100 MAXes pre-spinning their Mercies you're hearing.
I play shitloads of Planetside because it's the only game like it in two ways, both in the whole open world MMOFPS dealy and it's the only game where you get loads of opportunities to be a hero. Like, nothing beats coming out on top against stupid odds in that game, it just feels good. There's something carnally enjoyable about beating uneven odds, and that's a pretty big part of Planetside. With stuff like autobalance and even vehicle spawns in other games, you can't really recreate it. I really do wish they'd made it more like a modern update of the original Planetside- if I had a chance to speak with Higby I'd probably bitch him out endlessly for it, and I kind of pride myself on not having put down a single cent on this game. But even with all of my gripes, I still have 1k hours on this fucking game. Shit doesn't lie.
from the dude that literally has an avatar of a purple-dressed alien
There's a difference between being cool with aliens knockin' about, and worshiping their old kitchen appliances to the point of starting genocidal holy wars over them
