• My sister needs a decent laptop for school

Hi, my dad jumped on my computer a few minutes ago and was searching Best Buy's website for laptops for my sister. He decided he is going to get this one. Do you guys know of any good laptops in the ~600 dollar range? Preferably on Newegg.
a laptop for school in 2012 can cost you 200$. You dont need 6gm ram DDR3 and 750GB 72000RPM.
I personally got this one for college a few weeks ago: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16834200490 It was a high-end business-grade laptop from ~2008. The CPU is comparable to low-end Sandy Bridge i3 CPUs, for a comparison. If you take off the skin that came applied, there will probably be some scuffing on the lid and stuff, though nothing too extreme. The keyboard is great, the battery life is pretty good (5 hours), it isn't too large and heavy, it's very durable feeling and the trackpad/trackstick are pretty nice. It's a damn good laptop for the price if she doesn't mind missing a webcam or having a few scuffs if she decides to take the skin off. If you do get the laptop, you may have to install a few Dell drivers so everything works. If your dad wants to spend an extra ~$130, get a 128 GB Crucial M4 or Samsung 830. Installation is easy (3 screws total) and the boot time is reduced to under 30 seconds. If it's too old for your liking, I do recommend looking at newegg's other refurbished laptops. They're excellent deals.
Personal testimony: Fuck 15,6" laptops. My current laptop is a 15,6", and it's actually pretty damn huge and I hated carrying it around for over a year. The one I ordered a week or so ago is a 13,3", which is a much more sensible size, but this is obviously a personal opinion that does not apply to everyone.

Only now are they finally going back to their roots with the likes of ultrabooks. 13" is a proper size for a laptop - anything larger or heavier might as well be a desktop replacement. Unfortunately building everything out of plastic and with a size and weight where they can be lazy with the thermals has led to much cheaper prices, so that's where the market's at.

Had a itty bitty 14" one and the small screen annoyed me + the lack of non-combo built in numpad pissed me off greatly. But my home rig rivals some of NASA's set-up's so that probably explains why.
