I've put a couple of hours into Tomb Raider now and all I can say is: So near to perfection.
Really good game, they definitely didn't fuck this up. Pick it up if you have the chance.

Managed to use QTEs without making them feel like gameplay interrupts. Fucking love the game.

They did QTEs quite well, I've never been annoyed at them.

The constant explosions and falling shit just makes it so intense.

Also did they tone down the sex noises in the final game?
because the trailer had loads more

no way is it near perfect

Not even close to perfection at all, its just a pretty good game.
2 hours in and its felt like ive maybe had 30-45 minutes of gameplay, its seriously cutscene after cutscene so far.
Im getting an Assassin Creed 3 vibe from this.
You're hilariously wrong and they're nothing close to each other.
You're hilariously wrong and they're nothing close to each other.
But the climbing is almost as if it was taken directly from assassins creed. You press one button to climb and sometimes another button to jump to another place to continue climbing the same way as before.

Pretty much in every game that has done any kind of climbing mechanic. It would be tedious and tiresome to have to press four different buttons each time you wanted to climb on something.

I mean it feels like Assassin Creed 3 because all you do is run for a little bit, maybe kill someone, and then cutscene after cutscene.

That's exactly what it was in every earlier Tomb Raider game.

well i haven't played any other Tomb raider game

That's not something to boast about.
That's not something to boast about.
wasn't boasting. And since it's a reboot you should expect things to be different. If the climbing is the same in past games then they are just as bad in that regard.

It's probably a little more difficult for you to appreciate what Crystal Dynamics has done with this title, then. I'm not saying the new TR is anywhere near perfect, but as a single player game in this era of "multiplayer or die," it's really good. Sure they could have done a few things differently or better, but honestly, I'm having more fun with this campaign experience than I've had with pretty much any game in recent memory. It's giving me the same vibes I had when I played Human Revolution for the first time - I boot this game up and I'm actually excited to play it, just like HR. It's not a drag, and the gameplay doesn't seem like a chore I have to slog through before I get to the conclusion of the story. Sure it has its flaws, but you can tell that CD / Square Enix really put their hearts into this game.
The climbing is mostly a watered-down version of the climbing in previous Tomb Raider games, which I'm sure you're aware, predate Assassin's Creed.
doesn't change that it's boring

Maybe the Tomb Raider series just aren't your type of games then. This definitely improved on a lot of what the original series had, while starting fresh. Maybe it's not perfect, but it's damn good.
Also it was more of a story reboot, not a game genre reboot. Nobody would go for a Tomb Raider game that wasn't somewhat still along it's gameplay roots, even Guardian of Light kept a bit of the platforming/climbing and such. Which wasn't awful in the last games, just for this Lara to do any of what she could do previously would be absurd.
So looking at the thread title, it's DBZ with balance problems?

i'm just saying the climbing is pretty boring. Especially at the end [sp] you climb all the way up but there is absolutely no suspense and it ruins the moment since you can just press Forward and sometimes to the side to get all the way up.[/sp]
Overall it was a pretty fun game even though the side characters were bland and the game had a bit too much third person cover shooter elements

I thought it was a good platforming model compared to the previous few games that tried to simulate what the first games were with a fluid character.
Same with the combat, it was just much more fun than the previous games which also tried to simulate what the earlier games did. And I've actually played through most of the game only using melee, which has been a fun challenge.
I'm thoroughly enjoying the game. In fact it's the first game that I've played where I've chosen to collect all the collectibles (gps caches, etc) to extend the amount of enjoyment I get out of the game. I'm currently about 75% complete and I've played for about 30 hours.
