OSLO, Norway (AP) — A lawyer representing Snoop Dogg says the American rapper has been banned from entering Norway for two years after trying to enter the country with a small amount of marijuana last month. Holger Hagesaeter, the rapper's legal representative in Norway, told The Associated Press on Saturday that his client "can live with the decision" and has no immediate plans to appeal it. Snoop Dogg, whose name is Calvin Broadus, was on his way to a music festival in southern Norway in June when sniffer dogs detected eight grams of marijuana in his luggage. He was also carrying more cash than is legally allowed and was fined 52,000 kroner ($8,600) after admitting to the two offenses, the lawyer said.
Source DAMN RIGHT! JUST IMAGINE WHAT WOULD'VE HAPPENED TO THE NORWEGIAN PEOPLE HAD 8g OF MARIJUANA ENTERED ITS BORDERS!
So even countries like Norway have their disgusting moments.
It's just weed.
Didn't he have a load of undeclared cash with him, too?
So even countries like Norway have their disgusting moments.
How dare they give a minor punishment for an illegal activity he should have known better about.
I give this thread another 10 posts before it devolves into a legalization argument
Is it really that hard to find weed in Norway that the guy has to smuggle a tiny amount in?
How dare they give a minor punishment for an illegal activity he should have known better about.
It's an oppressive law. It flies contradictory to even the most basic of human rights.
I give this thread another 10 posts before it devolves into a legalization argument
I'd say that the first post was pretty damn close
I give this thread another 10 posts before it devolves into a legalization argument
Apparently it only needed 6
Snoop's so much of a fuckin' boss and it's so obvious he smokes weed that it should just be assumed he'll always be carrying it. Invites old farmer to 'smoke' with him backstage for growing world's largest vegetable :P
It's an oppressive law.
It's an oppressive law. It flies contradictory to even the most basic of human rights.
IMO there is a big difference between somebody who smokes drugs in their own home/with friends and those who just cross borders not giving a damn. Not like he was given a prison sentence or anything anyway. Smoking drugs is NOT a right, especially when you're just taking it through airports and shit. Keep it local or don't bother.
Before this becomes a debate on the legality of drugs, there is already a thread for that here Also So what, he was punished for something that was against the law.
Oh, I forgot humans don't deserve dignity or a right to their own body.
I'm all for letting people smoke weed but it's kinda overdramatic to proclaim that forbidding it is a violation of "the most basic of human rights". I swear, you could probably find some way to proclaim that everything ruled illegal violates some basic human right, oh no!
So even countries like Norway have their disgusting moments.
I think 'disgusting' is a bit overboard, it's not exactly genocide
It's an oppressive law. It flies contradictory to even the most basic of human rights.
I could quote Robert Heinlein to you, on the nature of supposed human rights, but it'd be lost on you so I won't bother.
I think 'disgusting' is a bit overboard, it's not exactly genocide
Genocide is unimaginable, genocide is abhorable. Genocide is not simply disgusting, in my opinion.
Is it really that hard to find weed in Norway that the guy has to smuggle a tiny amount in?
No, just walking around in central Oslo for an hour almost guarantees somebody asking if you'd like to buy weed.
I use the word disgusting for any laws that are aimed to destroy human dignity or self-determination.
I could quote Robert Heinlein to you, on the nature of supposed human rights, but it'd be lost on you so I won't bother.
"supposed human rights" He probably should have kept it to himself
to think that whole 8 grams was probably just for Snoop's smoke break during lunch
I could quote Robert Heinlein to you, on the nature of supposed human rights, but it'd be lost on you so I won't bother.
"Ah, yes, the 'unalienable rights.' Each year someone quotes that magnificent poetry. Life? What 'right' to life has a man who is drowning in the Pacific? The ocean will not hearken to his cries. What 'right' to life has a man who must die if he is to save his children? If he chooses to save his own life, does he do so as a matter of 'right'? If two men are starving and cannibalism is the only alternative to death, which man's right is 'unalienable'? And is it 'right'? As to liberty, the heroes who signed that great document pledged themselves to buy liberty with their lives. Liberty is always unalienable; it must be redeemed regularly with the blood of patriots or it is always vanquished. Of all the so-called 'natural human rights' that have ever been invented, liberty is least likely to be cheap and is never free of cost. " This quote? Because I've read it before.
Why'd they let him in in the first place, anyway, I thought everyone just assumes he has weed on him.
Is it really that hard to find weed in Norway?
Not really. There are plenty of dealers in Norway, you just need some connections. Maybe Snoop just prefers his own weed or something, I don't know. [editline]28th July 2012[/editline]
No, just walking around in central Oslo for an hour almost guarantees somebody asking if you'd like to buy weed.
What neighborhoods were you walking around in? I've lived in Oslo for 17 years, but I've never been offered weed.
I feel like this happened before somehow.

I've been asked multiple times, so have my friends. [editline]28th July 2012[/editline] I wouldn't bet on the quality being worth it though.
It's an oppressive law. It flies contradictory to even the most basic of human rights.
A basic human right is the freedom to smuggle drugs into another country and to get high? Are you high?
but where is the love?
