• 5770 Low FPS

I was playing CSS with a friend recently and I've realised that my FPS is kinda low. So i go through the stress test built in CSS and my average frames was about 140. I put all the settings to low. Went through the test again. My average frames was still 140. Shouldn't being on low get alot more fps then high? I know its playable at these frames, but I want my graphics card to perform at it's best. I was expecting more. My friend who has a 8600 gt gets 200 FPS through the test. I play on the res 1360x768 My specs are: Windows 7 AMD Athlon 64 x2 5600+ (2.9GHz) 3GB RAM DDR2 Single channel Asus M4A77D XFX HD 5770 320G Harddrive
The Source engine is more CPU than GPU. Source is also rather sensitive to the amount of L2 cache a processor has, the AMD 5600 only has 1MB of cache. I may be wrong however.
So my GPU is being bottlenecked by my CPU?
It sounds like you have something like v-sync on. Also 140 fps is still high, maybe not as high as it could be but still high. It won't noticeable if you had more FPS. Unless you have very good eyes. Try out some other more demanding games and see if you are getting a large FPS drop.
V-sync isn't on if it was my fps will be caped at 60. I know it's fine at 140 like i'm ok with it. But I'm curious on why playing on low and high have the same fps :| Tried playing crysis. Compared it to benchmarks on tomshardware. Seems alright.
CSS only uses one cpu core.
Played through half life 2 episode 2 opening. I get about 35fps average on everything max aax8. I get in crysis about 35 fps on high aax4. ABout 45fps in Bioshock 2. Looks alright.
