At least nine students have been pulled out of school and facing multiple charges - including inciting a riot - for their alleged role in a huge food fight - and there may be others. The mealtime melee erupted on Friday at Ola High School in McDonough, Georgia, with numerous students tossing food items at each other during lunch. The food fight had reportedly been planned for weeks, and when school officials got wind of it, they made an announcement before lunch, warning students not to go through with it. Additional arrests may be possible after school officials watch surveillance footage of the incident. Some students decried the arrests as too harsh a punishment for a high school prank. Ola student Breanna Silver told WXIA-TV: 'I think they went a little too overboard with charging. They could've done like suspension or something.' While many students have dismissed the food fight as a prank, the school's leaders say that this is no laughing matter. Henry County Schools spokesman J.D. Hardin told WXIA-TV: If you went out anywhere else in public and did this you would face a similar consequence.' He added: 'We don’t want our students to participate in this.School is supposed to be a fun learning environment.' YOU GOTTA FIGHT FOR YOUR RIGHT TO have any sort of fun whatsoever without being arrested. Catchy.
The people who did this are cunts. I mean, the Administration even told them not to do it right before lunch that day and they went ahead with it anyway.
What the fuck is up with people going to the extremes of shit, yeah its a food fight, but to arrest them and give them charges in the court of law? that is about as retarded when they one called in people in hazmat suits to remove a therometer because it had mercury in it.

One has been found with possession of marijuana and several other charges.

They told them not to do it, they said "Fuck u Administrashun, u can't do nothin' 2 us," and proceeded to disrupt school, injure a fellow student, start a riot and generally be nuisances. Plus one of them was possessing marijuana at the time, so that can't help her case at all.
He added: 'We don’t want our students to participate in this.School is supposed to be a fun learning environment.'
Then why are you screwing nine kids over for absolutely nothing? Doing this is only making school less fun, dingus. Food fights are more or less harmless, the proper response is to make the instigators clean the mess up and drop the matter at that. I also don't see how it constitutes a riot...it's a sodding food fight, jeeze.

These are people who are supposed to be mature 17ish High School students. Most of them can probably drive, and in a year most of them will be able to vote. These aren't some little second graders who you might be able to send away with a slap on the wrist. If you just make them clean it up, that only tells them that they can do it again, and the next time, do something worse. If they can't act like they are fucking adults, maybe treating them like they are will make them realize that "Oh shit, I can't pull stunts like this anymore because I can actually go to jail now."

and yet what they did was still safer than almost any high school sport. [editline]6th February 2013[/editline] not saying they aren't pricks, only that the school administration is a bit shit when they have to get police involved.
What does that teach them at all? These are people who are supposed to be mature 17ish High School students. Charges like 'inciting a riot' tend to have a pretty severe negative effect on future job prospects, after all. I really fail to see how charging them like this is going to teach them anything more than to resent the school.
<injury thing>
Ahh. I'm betting it was the media's definition of an injury. AKA: Someone had a slight bruise or a paper cut.
1. What if peanut butter or some shit was thrown and got on a kid who's allergic? 2. What about the poor janitors who have to clean that shit up?
1. What if peanut butter or some shit was thrown and got on a kid who's allergic? 2. What about the poor janitors who have to clean that shit up?
Not saying they should get off scot-free, I personally don't think they even deserve to be charged, but a charge of inciting a riot is just ridiculous. I would say a proper punishment would be making them clean the mess up and a few days suspension after that, maybe even make them write a large essay about how they're sorry or something. A criminal record is unneeded, a school is supposed to prepare kids for the future, not destroy it over something like this. Not including the kid that had weed though, that was stupid.

What about the poor janitors who have to clean that shit up?
you make a good point with number one, number two i think the best course of action would be to have the instigators clean the shit up. they deserve punishment, just not legal reprisal.
They gave me a charge, I said "Naw nigga, my record's clean, I don't need that shit" and I threw it on the ground
A food fight isn't a fucking riot
http://www.merriam-webster.com/dictionary/riot Pretty sure that this fits the bill for a riot. a tumultuous disturbance of the public peace by three or more persons assembled together and acting with a common intent Nine people is more than three, they acted together with a common intent, peace was disturbed and it was violent enough to injure a student. Sure that student may not have been injured badly, but they wouldn't have been hurt at all had it not been for these fuckwits.

It's not like they did this with the specific intention to hurt anybody.
you can accidentally hurt someone in a big foot fight. i knew a guy who playfully threw a drink at someone's face (long story) and the cup cut his lip pretty bad. he could have lost an eye.

It's not like they did this with the intention to hurt anybody.
I'm mad because these people are the worst kinds of people. They flagrantly disregard authority, they don't give a single shit about other people's property (the school's or the property of students who didn't want to be involved) and they clearly gave zero shits about the potential consequences of their actions.
I really think it's just kids being kids, I don't know them personally so I can't make a true judgement on that. I just honestly think inciting a riot is a tad harsh, even if what they did fits the technical legal term I think it should be reserved for people with serious intentions of real violence, but that's up to a judge to decide. Just my 2 cents.

Maaaan I never got to see a food fight at my school. The one time it almost happened, admins caught wind of it and doubled teacher staffing during all lunches that day. You couldn't leave your plate alone for 10 seconds without someone hovering over you.
are you seriously calling a food fight a riot, use some common sense food fights are meant to be harmless pranks for fun, not an uprising against the school administration.
Pretty sure you can count it as an uprising against an administration when said administration tells you flat out not to do it and you do it anyway.
Man I wish there would be a huge food fight at my high school! But it seems like it would take a a lot of planning and actually getting people to follow through..and you know no ones got time for that!
He added: 'We don’t want our students to participate in this.School is supposed to be a fun learning environment.'
I get the feeling that part of the fun in school is the clash with authority. Granted, is a bad thing, etc etc, but ey, is part of growing up.
