• What the hell should I buy: pre-order Just Cause 3 with or without the XL pack, get some new monitor

Here's some pros and cons of each choice that make all of these choices appealing but make things a heated contest: Pre-order Just Cause 3 w/ XL pack: + Immediately experience a sequel that's shaping up to be just as good as its prequel - Minimum GPU on the system requirements is a GTX 670 - I only have a 660 Ti, so there could be some issues + ...but there was apparently a leak where retail packaging says minimum was a non-Ti 660, so maybe not - No One Does Bloatware Like Square Enix: only have ~4 GB free on my 128 GB SSD, the only thing that does support the entirety of the 54 GB weight AND temporary double to 108 for decryption currently would be a Mac mini -- ...but the game doesn't run on OS X, so no In-Home Streaming to get around storage constraints - Extra $$$ because XL - Moderate risk of getting butt fucked by NVIDIA if mandatory Game Ready driver email registration comes into effect right at the start of December, AKA the day JC3 is also released Pre-order Just Cause 3 w/o XL pack: + Mostly the same game anyway + A smidge cheaper, and if I did want XL I could pick it up during the Christmas sale if Square Enix is generous enough to toss it into the sale fire that early - ...but that's doubtful +/- Still the same GPU fears - Still the same storage woes Get some new monitor: + Current monitor is a Acer S200HL, with just 1 VGA/D-Sub (occupied by main desktop) and 1 DVI (occupied by a Mac mini), and is only 60hz + Would be very damn nice to use DisplayPort to replace VGA and HDMI to replace DVI, and having one or both as backup options would be good bonus points + Reduction of time from power button press to screen being usable would be a good bonus + I could get out of the middle ground between 720p and 1080p known as 1600x900 + A recent museum visit pretty much inadvertently sold me on getting weighing IPS bonus points more heavily - Getting a monitor without a faster refresh rate only for connectivity and a small bump in resolution would be a bit stupid - Fast refresh rate monitors cost a good wad of money - Fast refresh rate monitors with IPS cost more than a motherfucking shitload of money Get an AMD Radeon R9 390: + Current NVIDIA GeForce GTX 660 Ti is starting to show signs of age + Better bang for buck over a NVIDIA GeForce GTX 970, especially if in the future I decide to go 1440p or even 4K or some ultrawide thing + AMD has historically been king in compute performance, with NVIDIA only just recently at least starting to catch up with Maxwell + Would alleviate JC3 GPU fears quite easily + Dodge moderate risk of mandatory GeForce Experience registration coming into effect if "December" means "December 1st" and "the first Game Ready driver released that month" - If I don't get a new monitor, I'd need to get a VGA adapter due to previously mentioned 1 VGA/D-Sub & 1 DVI - NVIDIA loves being assholes with GameWorks + ...but I could temporarily bring back in my 660 Ti from the sideline if need be for GameWorks titles as it's otherwise still fine + ...and although Just Cause 2 had NVIDIA features, it apparently didn't make things terrible with it So, those are the options. You guys have a say in what the hell I should buy in the event you didn't notice that poll up top, so go vote!
Don't preorder at all, buy a 1080p monitor The GPU is a good choice but the monitor is more important. I'm sure that you have a backlog of games that you can play while waiting for JC3 to go on sale and also while raising money for the gpu My recommended order: Monitor, GPU, JC3
Hey man, i got a moniter from like... legit 2003/2005 area timeframe, it has 75hz capability, just not on maximum resolution. If i rock full resolution (1680 x 1050) then it has a maximum capability of 60hz. However when i rock 1440 x 900, i get my 75hz capability. Maybe your moniter has the same capacity? I didn't find out about this until literally less then 6 months ago. I would recommend a new card/gpu/whatever it is beforehand. I think it would be better to have the capability to run past __FPS before you get the capacity to display past 60hz. However that is just my two cents. Depending on what you use your computer for, It may be worth it to invest in a better moniter. If its just for gaming, than i'd go with card/gpu/whatnot first. However it may or may not be worth it if you do digital graphics for work/anything that requires such a high definition. I wouldn't recommend a game that you (potentially) can't run. I'm in the same boat as you, as i can't run too many of my games that well - barely past 15fps myself. Plus, you can probably get the game for cheap on sale some day - Who knows!

At the very least they're not recommending a Maxwell GPU or a Rx 300 series GPU, so I think I'll be fine if I keep it on high but maybe not ultra.
Uhmm, why pre-order at all? Why not wait till it's released, buy it on Steam, check whether it runs okay - if it does, great! If it doesn't just make sure you've played less than 2 hours and get a refund. My guess is your 660 Ti should be sufficient for your current resolution, and if you can wait for the next generation of GPUs (which will be the first process node shrink in 4 years), you'll be better off. But in the end I'd prioritise monitor and GPU - you can always pick up JC3 down the line (and it'll definitely be cheaper), but obviously that depends on how much you want to play JC3.
