[release] The Syrian embassy in Ottawa was vandalized overnight when the front of the building was splashed with red paint. The vandalism coincided with weekend protests asking the international community, including Canada, to intervene to end the violence in the country. About 40 people demonstrated outside the embassy on Saturday to denounce the regime of leader Bashar Assad, and Friday evening Canadians of Syrian descent held a candlelight vigil. "Lots of people spent their blood to give us the freedom we are living [in Canada]," Syrian-Canadian Farid Hadded told CBC News at the vigil. "Now, at this time, lots of people back home in Syria are also paying the price for our kids' future to live in democracy and freedom." It's not clear if people at either protest were involved in the vandalism. RCMP are investigating. The embassies of Syria in six other countries have also been vandalized. The embassy in Cairo was burned and various furniture were destroyed, while the embassy in London had its windows broken. I am okay with this. I live about 25 minutes from the downtown core, so I might go down there soon and splash some paint myself (just kidding, don't want to get arrested amirite?).
They have it coming.
So the Syrian embassy in Cairo was burnt down, the embassy in London had its' windows smashed, and the one on Ottawa just had paint splashed on it. How vicious.
Next thing you know the one in sweden will have witty remarks posted on the door.

Syria is going to send our government a angry letter!
I think attacking the embassy of any country in any way or form, even if it is just splashing paint on it, is absolutely wrong. An embassy should always be a safe haven for for the embassador and people from the country, and it should remain untouched.

I mean, it ain't like Assad himself is in there, is it? All it's gonna do is harm the Syrians. Assad don't give a fuck.

Canada is so hardcore :D
I'm ok with this.
I'm ok with this.
Why Assad isn't going to care. He's either batshit insane or all too aware of what the world thinks of him right now. So if Assad doesn't care and is thus impossible to harm in this manner, and the soldiers oppressing the citizens are in Syria... who else could they be hurting but the citizens and the country itself?
the point isn't to get Assad's attention, it's to try and bring attention to the on going massacre of an entire country's people has anyone been harmed yet at these embassies, because i don't believe they have but maybe i'm wrong it's a protest, it IS necessary because there's no other way to get attention as people have tried everything [editline]5th February 2012[/editline] plus if they're working in these embassies then they're probably 100% with Assad anyway

However Russia and China are stonewalling any attempt to get Assad out. Besides attacking embassies helps no one.
