So I'm looking into upgrading my PC, specifically the RAM and GPU.
Now the gist of my current setup is as follows:
ATI HD 5870
intel i7 920 processor (Bought in 2009 if that matters)
Gigabyte GA-EX58-UD5 Motherboard
Some shit triple channel ddr3 RAM 3x2gb rated @1600 but won't boot above 1333

I'm thinking about waiting for the next generation of AMD cards to be released, rumors that I've read have said october 2013. I'm upgrading for BF4 so if that's right it would be very nice timing.
I've also read some threads stating that there is no difference in games between triple and dual channel memory for the i7 920, so wouldn't it be just as good to get dual channel instead of triple channel?
I guess for memory 3x4 or 2x6 would be enough as I also do some recreational video editing on the side, wondering about speed though, 2000?
All tips and suggestions welcome.
I'm also thinking about overclocking my CPU a bit, it's on stock and I have a V8 air cooler for it. I would just be looking for some minor performance increase shooting for 3.2?
You have a great processor, there is really no need to overclock it.
I've got Intel i5 and ATI HD 7700 and i'm happy with it.
I'd do what you said and wait for AMD/Nvidia to fight it out this holiday season. They're going to release cool new stuff, and the prices on the old stuff will probably drop.
RAM is literally more than double the price it was 2 years ago.
Might be best to hold off on that for now.

At the same time, there's a chance it won't make a difference as harddrive-prices still aren't as low as they were before the flood that made harddrive prices rise
What i'm saying is, 75% of the price rise is due to the companies having an excuse to, so there's a chance they might not bother competing on price so it won't be that long for some time to come
