OK so Ive decided that i want to spend £1400 on a new desktop rig But there's so many different choices i could go for. I want at least 8 gig of ram or higher and a bad ass graphics card of some type, but apart from that i don't know what else to get.. case/processor/fans/lights/hardrive e.t.c. (much much more im sure) If anybody can help, i would like your advice on what i can get best with £1400. thanks :)
What do you want the rig for? Gaming?
What do you want the rig for? Gaming?
Well just an overall kick ass machine, the best of performance and gaming i suppose [editline]09:38PM[/editline] Oh and i wont be buying an operating system as i already have windows 7 ultimate 64 bit that im hoping to use and install.
You don't need 8 gigs. 4/6 is fine. Also, only spend 900-1000 and save the rest for upgrades 3 years from now.

In gaming the performance in games with 4 gigs is identical to 8 gigs (and higher). Also, listen to my advice in not spending all your cash at once. In 2 years no matter what setup you got it will be outdated. So might as well have some cash lying around to upgrade a GPU or a CPU.

Personally i would get a solid state hard drive for the os with that sort of money.

LGA1366 processors are for faggots. [editline]12:47AM[/editline] Go instead for i7 860, it has the same performance than i7 920 but without the expensive motherboard and RAM (you just have 4GB instead but that's enough)

GTX 480/5870 are enough for a single "big" monitor

And your motherboard doesn't even have 2 PCI-E slots running at 16x [editline]12:02AM[/editline]
Except if you want to do some Eyefinity setup, do not take the 5970. Hmmm... Maybe you can find a motherboard than mine, on this socket. I'm not very aware about PCI-E slots and their speed. Alternatively, I have to disagree with you about the GPU. Maybe HD 5970 is the "best" GPU nowadays, but not worth the money without Eyefinity setup (or a big 30" monitor for 2560x1600 screen resolution). GTX 480 (or HD 5870) are better as mono-GPU.
700D for reals? No Get the ATCS840, all aluminum and it has more fans included [editline]07:10PM[/editline] and its cheaper
Yeah for the case, I would go for an good CoolerMaster (HAF X, ATCS840) or Antec case (P193). Corsair cases are more about watercooling setup
700D for reals? No Get the ATCS840, all aluminum and it has more fans included [editline]07:10PM[/editline] and its cheaper
It's also uglier

Woah, really worth it.
It's also uglier
Cases are not made to be pretty, but for their main function.
700D for reals? No Get the ATCS840, all aluminum and it has more fans included [editline]07:10PM[/editline] and its cheaper
would this fit the build? that FINLEY posted?

I do concur that you could still have a very good build for £800-£1000, I was just showing the OP what he could get for his money. If I were the OP though I wouldn't spend more than £1000 on a build
It's also uglier
nope [editline]07:16PM[/editline]
would this fit the build? that FINLEY posted?
certainly, it's almost as big as the 700D but lighter because it's aluminum
nope [editline]07:16PM[/editline] certainly, it's almost as big as the 700D but lighter because it's aluminum
yurp
Don't listen to slithersoul, that case is ugly as a monkey's ass. Wait for a 600T, it'll probably be big enough.
Cases are not made to be pretty, but for their main function.
to be pretty?
Would you like to have a monkey's ass as your case? No.
