Osama bin Laden: Treasure Hunter Searches for Body

Treasure hunter Bill Warren salvages history from shipwrecks, but he has a different sort of treasure in mind for his next quest -- he is now seeking to find the remains of Osama bin Laden in the north Arabian Sea.
"It is the most exciting and maybe dangerous project," Warren, 67, told ABC News of his latest mission.
After the United States proclaimed that bin Laden was killed in a Pakistani compound on May 2 and that DNA tests verified his identity, his body was placed in a weighted bag and buried at sea.
But photos of the corpse of the then most wanted man on earth were never publicized -- which some say breeds skepticism.
"I want to prove, one way or the other that he is, in fact, dead," Warren said.
Over the past 30 years, Warren, an entrepreneur and sunken-treasure hunter from California, says he has discovered 150 wrecks and recovered loot that totals several million dollars. Brushing off skeptics, he has attempted to uncover legendary wrecks such as the San Francisco Xavier, which sank in 1705, and a Spanish caravel called the Trinidad dating back to the mid-1500s, according to media reports.
The bin Laden mission may be the most far-fetched yet.
"If we are successful and find him with sonar and recover him with a remote-operated vehicle, we'll recover the body in the bag and take photographs, video, and a DNA test -- maybe of his hair or his beard."
Warren is still not entirely sure how bin Laden's DNA will be confirmed from what he potentially may recover, but wonders if a Bin Laden family member might confirm the DNA to bring an end to his quest for proof.
"I know his family lives in Arabia," he said.
Funded by money from associates, Warren says this hunt could cost nearly $1 million.
Money, it seems, is a big motivation for Warren.
"There is still a $25 million reward that no one has collected, and the reward says dead or alive, well, if -- in fact -- he is dead, then I could collect the $25 million reward. Why not?"
Unfortunately for Warren, the reward is no longer being offered. Though this was explained to Warren, he insisted that he's going to continue his hunt.
I look forward to this.
this is kinda dumb
James Cameron went down there first :v:.
he won't find anything
This reminds me of the "bounty hunter" that was supposed to hunt down and kill Bin Laden with his katana and pistol.
So, when they don't find him, what are they going to do? Say it never happened?
I think there's a better chance of them not finding his body in the middle of the sea than the U.S Government faking his death.
On the topic of bin Laden you should all read this article, basically in 2010 he just showed up at some random dude's house in a huge armed convoy and had dinner with him
i am the only one who thinks its fucking weird they just threw his body in the sea and said "it's a traditional islamic burial"
I don't doubt he's dead, but I believe they have him in some other location.
Don't think they dumped his body in the sea.

What do you want them to do with it? No country wanted an international terrorist to be buried on their lands, and nobody want his grave to be enshrined. So we gave him a naval burial instead.
Watch him find Megatron instead.
He isn't going to find him. A full year in the sea won't leave much if anything.

Guess it just feels weird to have that much cinematic buildup and propaganda to a completely mundane and down-to-earth closure.

even if he does, I won't care
Warren is still not entirely sure how bin Laden's DNA will be confirmed from what he potentially may recover
Solid game plan you have there.

What did you expect to happen exactly?
At this point there very likely is nothing much left of his body.
wasn't his body burned or something?
"Bill Warren was seen being taken into a van by men in black"
So much for his expedition...
I don't think that bounties really work this way... Considering the US already found him.
This reminds me of the "bounty hunter" that was supposed to hunt down and kill Bin Laden with his katana and pistol.
I thought that was a 4channer and he got arrested at an airport in Iraq or something for trying to smuggle his katana through security.
I want to prove, one way or the other that he is, in fact, dead
But its already been confirmed...

Also, completely speaking out of what I read when bin Laden was killed, but isn't muslim religion that being dumped in the sea is a good burial or something?
Regardless of whether he finds bin Laden or not, it will be interesting to see what else he might turn up in the process of his expedition.
But its already been confirmed...
[insert silly conspiracy theory here]
Also, completely speaking out of what I read when bin Laden was killed, but isn't muslim religion that being dumped in the sea is a good burial or something?
Actually, I think that a burial at sea is considered bad in the muslim religion
I read that osama bin laden's remains were cremated and dumped into the sea, good luck finding the individual pieces of ash in the ocean
I thought Osama was flown to the USA and cremated
This guys not gunna find anything in the Arabian sea
i am the only one who thinks its fucking weird they just threw his body in the sea and said "it's a traditional islamic burial"
That's not a traditional islamic burial given there was no ceremony or anything to it.
Surely the government would have censored any indication he was still alive, rather than conceal the state of his death? If he is still alive, whats the point in hiding the fact? He's not a political figure up for election, or a whistleblower, or a rouge agent or anything conspiracy-inducing.
If the US government turned round tomorrow and said 'Our bad, he's not dead', what exactly would that change? Apart from make them look silly.

The conspiracy of faking his death also would have to be so unbelievably huge and coordinated that there is no way it could work. Kind of like 911 conspiracy theorys, if you think about who all would have to be involved there is no fucking way it could be kept a secret.
