George Lucas is sick of hearing complaints from the Star Wars fanbase, so he's leaving big-budget filmmaking for smaller projects. In a recent New York Times interview regarding his upcoming film Red Tails and the difficulties in creating the World War II biopic, filmmaker George Lucas stated he's stepping back and pull the final curtain on his career. Instead of producing any more multi-million dollar blockbusters, Lucas hopes to devote his time to making smaller, more artsy and personal films like his mentor, friend and fellow filmmaker Francis Ford Coppola."I'm retiring," Lucas stated in the the interview. "I'm moving away from the business, from the company, from all this kind of stuff."This may also mean that Lucas will finally be done with creating any more adventures (good or bad) inStar Wars' far, far away galaxy, although Lucas sort of attributes this to the increasing backlash he's received from the Star Wars fan base over the 1997's special edition release of the original trilogy and every subsequent re-edit since. In explaining why, Lucas likened the negative response to the kind of demands he used to hear from major film studios, who in the past have forcibly re-edited his earlier films like THX 1138. Lucas feels his ability to re-imagine the Star Wars films into what he originally wanted them to be is being restricted by the criticism he's heard over the Star Wars films."Why would I make any more," Lucas stated about continuing with his popular sci-fi universe, "when everybody yells at you all the time and says what a terrible person you are?"While it remains to be seen if Lucas' retirement sticks, his next film, Red Tails opens this Friday, and is a historical drama about the all-black fighter squadron known as the Tuskegee Airmen, who fought in the second World War.
Honestly he wasn't doing very good with big budget films anyways.
Bout fucking time. Tired of him fucking up the Star Wars movies.
Good.
So he would rather retire from big movies than release a normal, unaltered version of his movies...

Probably because the more recent movies you made were terrible.

this made me sad
its ok fatty
we still love you
[sp]jk hes just fat[/sp]
I actually enjoyed all the Star Wars films...
Good. He's horrible at what he does and his actual successes were more to do with the director and crew intervening his bullshit than any kind of skill Lucas has. He's a hack and the new trilogy showed what he can do given no one stopped him during the creation of it.
I actually enjoyed all the Star Wars films...
I did not.
I mean besides all the problems in the prequels that Plinkett pointed out, there was also the fact that the prequels were just really fucking boring.
The Original Trilogy is awesome, though.
You fucked up Star Wars for us, Lucas.
Case in point:

RIP.
in regards to people's criticism of his later work and his edits of star wars, I'd highly recommend you guys watch

I'd love to see what he comes up with.
ALSO

They need to remake the first three Star Wars and make them more like the last three. I, II and III sucked penis. The originals were so much better and weren't cluttered up with CG bull shit.
The only good things to come out of the new trilogy was RedLetterMedia's 80 minute long reviews of each.
The originals were so much better and weren't cluttered up with CG bull shit.
Well they weren't but he fixed that. Now the originals have CG all over the fucking place and have been edited to hell and back.
original trilogy rocked socks
after that it was (in my opinion anyway) made for kids.
seriously look at them! there is no way in hell that the target audience for any of the newer star wars movies over the age of 14.
even the new star tours in Disneyland is filled with sillyness and its got to have been on purpose right?
.....
right?
Kind of hard to sympathize with him - he made a very bad product, we complained about it and now he is leaving in a huff because we don't enjoy the very lousy stuff he's made, like his fans are ungrateful or something.
"Why would I make any more," Lucas stated about continuing with his popular sci-fi universe, "when everybody yells at you all the time and says what a terrible person you are?
You are not a terrible person George. You made movies that defined my childhood and I hope you happily enjoy your retirement. I look forward to your upcoming movie and I wish for the best in terms of its success.
I loved every single movie. That will never change.
Maybe instead of whining and quitting, he should stop releasing crappy CG edited versions of films that are fine on their own. I wonder if he knows how much of a little brat he's being.
But...
Indiano Jones 5

Indiana
I kinda feel sad when I read his quotes, but he also made a lot of fans sad as well and I can't say he painted a sympathetic picture of himself during the filmmaking, so I won't change my opinion on him just because of this.
But "nice" to see he's at least human and not a jerk through and through.

Please god no.
Yeah, fuck George Lucas! He gave us two fantastic series, got older and made sequels from the audience's popular demand which they should have expected that they wouldn't be as good as he's almost 70 years old now BUT FUCK HIM ANYWAY!
I sort of like the guy because he made the Original Trilogy and the first three Indiana Jones films, but he got really greedy as time went on, and I sort of dislike him now for bastardizing some of my favourite film series'. I say this is very good news.
G-Lucas shouldn't have made the changes he has to the films, but at the same time doesn't deserve death threats from spergs for doing it.
