We paid a visit to what was left of Blackburn Royal Infirmary in the UK. Unfortunately a lot has been knocked down and all that is left is this:
In red is what is left of the hospital

This part of the hospital is not getting knocked down but is soon getting converted, not sure when but not any time soon by the looks of it.
If you are interested coming out with us this week send me a PM - We will be out in Blackburn.
We went back today to take pictures before the sun went down, this time we got access to the 2nd floor by the same place we got access to the 1st floor. We also got in to the mortuary.

As for the story of what happened last night when we first went there and fully explored last night:
We explored the ground floor but only found shit knocking about from the tiles above where the builders robbed the copper piping , so if you go be careful as there are some holes in this part because of the piping. You gain access to the 1st floor in the far right ward after you gain initial access, it is a little climb through a window to the fire escape, watch for glass around here and the whole Hospital, just go up the steps and walk through the fire exit which is open for you from previous people.
Now your in the ward of the 1st floor, not bad place, as you go down the corridor the first room is a nice place to chill out if you want a smoke, drink etc. (had a cheeky smoke at this point) it's a nice view out the broken window here too. So once we left here we carried on down the corridor and a few nice rooms knocking about so explore this floor well :) now you gain access in the far ward I think it was by going again through a window that is easy to climb through again onto a fire exit, we had to watch out here as you are overlooked by houses and the many cars, after we all nosily legged it before the next bus, cop or car came we were at the 2nd floor.
Unfortunately this was not very easy access so we just moved on. If you wanted to go through you could clear the bit of glass on the window and squeeze through or unlock the door, I tried but it was a bit stiff.
So we carried on going up the steps to the Attic floor as we called it, now this door is locked and no window access so you climb over a slight wall onto a fire exit roof. This is where jo got her feet wet through by leeping off the wall onto the roof..into a foot deep of rain water. Smooth jo, smooth. Again this is a cracking spot to chill out and have a few, we stayed here for a while and noticed kids coming in the access we got at the start from the construction fencing. This was brilliant, we watched them as they came through and split off into two groups, one, the girls, mainly stayed at the fence as the lads walked out of sight near the security fence (now here there was a construction fencing leaning on like a ladder but looked a bit dodgy) we heard them on that and then smash some windows. At this point we panicked a bit as we would get the blame for the damage if caught, which we would have been if the police came. Anyway, back to the kids (14 years old or so) they were laughing and all met back at the fence then I decided to make some daft spooky noise from the attic floor and made at least 5 girls scream their little tits off. Brilliant, they then shot out from the fence faster than rabbits, I made another noise which made them go silent, made another and made them all scream and leg it home! Good times.
So we heading into the attic floor, mainly skipped the shitty rooms and heading strait for the other side. We came to some circular balcony, making a fucking racket in the distance we thought there were initially rats, on closer inspection, water? Nope a shit load of pigeons above our heads, so we were sneaking through there shitting it with flashes of The Birds and being shat on rolled into one. Not a pretty thought, so watch out you are not noisy and keep light to a minimum, the floors are safe. One fluttered about and we had a heart attacking thinking they were all going to come down. Luckily we made it to the other side, not being pecked to death while getting shit on was a brilliant relief. Here we went looking for the fire exit to go back down to leave as we had been here for awhile now. We didn't succeed in finding it so hastily made it back to The Pigeon Hive. We got through here no problem and went back onto the fire exit roof with a nice smoke before going back down and leaving.
I never knew anyone on FP lived remotely near me. This is interesting.
Edit: You should run through scaring the shit out of the pigeons and see what happens -- maybe some FEAR 2-style zombie-ghost scene will follow.
That red squiggle looks like a bear having a shit.

I wouldn't go near the pigeons if I were you, because there'd probably be loads of pigeon shit everywhere, which can cause sickness if inhaled.
Yeah there was a shit load of shit knocking about that centre room
Pretty awesome, some of those photos were blurry though.
Yeah camera phone, going back with a better one on Friday
That's a really cool album, sadly I'm not going Urbex until I get a gas mask. Some of the older buildings near me were built completely out of asbestos.

Haha, we took some masks on our first visit, we pretty much flew through today taking pictures though without em.
Check for underground passages. We have plenty of those in our mental hospital (which was the regular hospital before the new one was built ages ago).
I'll have a look next time we go, there was a part underground but didn't seen fairly large and noticed no access apart from through a hole where copper thieves.
Jo just reminded me about some ladders we saw on the second floor which we got access too, they were large and could be used to get down or up a few floors easy so we could get into the attic (we saw 2 home made ladders in places on the attic floor but were unstable) so maybe if we use the other ladder where they were.
We are off out tonight again if you are interested PM me asap
That is near to where I live :D. Not Blackburn, but y'know that general area. Cool :)
Well we just paid another visit to the old Infirmary tonight, we got access easily enough once again and trooped right up to the top floor to chill on the fire exit roof for a bit then swiftly moved on as the cars may have seen our torches.
Scooted through the attic floor again but noticed it had been ransacked by pikeys sometime earlier or the day before as all the roof is nearly ripped down and more evidence of intrusion.
We then went down to the theatre rooms and settled down and had a game of cards and a munch, this then turned into a swift exit as Jo shit herself at a noise so we got a mooch on back down and out.
We had decided earlier to check the garage out underneath the place so we had to leg it in the open around the front, tony went on the outside of some construction fence I said what you doing it's this way, running at full pelt, head first into a steel construction fence. Owch. Luckily I had a brain cell remaining to duck when a car came past, nothing else happened really the garage is nothing special, a bit in the open really.
Fun and painful times :D
Gotta love that BRI.
I find it a bit creepy that it was just abandoned as-is, coffee mugs still there, equipment left there, etc. Why don't they clean out the whole place before demolishing it?
A lot has gone theres fuck all remaining really, and plus they are keeping this part of the building, changing it into flats eventually no where near started with the flats yet though

I'm sure most of the staff did.
Maybe this was just a group of lazy people who wouldn't take their coffee mugs home.

That's generally how a lot of abandoned places are. Why move everything out? Where are they going to put it?
The abandoned mental asylum I've been to had a room filled with monthly hospital admittance/discharge/death reports dating back to the '50s (we could only find one month with deaths reported).
Anyone up for coming out in Blackburn tonight? We have a new spot to check out, plus camera with a flash this time.
I wish I could come
I miss doing Urbex, I haven't been able to do it since I got arrested.
That place looks pretty cool though.
