Impossible to know whether they're on the right or not without seeing the new contracts. If they're decent and it's music labels being greedy, well, YT can't do anything about it. If they're shit and they're trying to force it down, though, that's a dick move.
Youtube basically held these labels up to what is practically extortion. Saying if you don't agree to our offer, and you can't negotiate it, we will can you and all your artists.
This article doesn't really explain what the deal is it's just "Youtube did a thing and people are angry, let's go into detail about how angry they are."
Oh no, youtube is letting you host your shit on their shit for the cost of free 99. And now you're saying no because it could potentially cost you money? I wish this shit would tell us what the contract was

It's extortion to let something move in then gradually change the terms to the point where they get nothing
i only fear this will spread to other contributors on youtube who generate large amounts of traffic. youtube has never been a money site for me, and i'll never spend a dime on anything that they want me to buy. but, as it was said numerous times, youtube is really shooting themselves in the foot on this one as, i'm sure, a large amount of traffic is generated from independent music.
Hah, they can fuck right off. What happened to the idea that YouTube be a free platform for all kinds of videos?
From what others have told me, the problem isn't Youtube, it's google. Youtube isn't allowed to host the content if the labels don't update their terms. Google Music is the issue or something.
as if they won't just get reuploaded by the fuckton by regular users hiding behind 'fair use' rule

Oh google, you can shove a giant prickly cactus up your ass. Fuck you for constantly battering and unnecessary destroying youtube with your greedy updates.
And then they'll go to viemo and people will watch their shit there like nothing happened What's the point?
Why not have the same terms as Music All Access, rather than having two streaming services?

I think Google threw its toys out of the pram again.
