Officials in Texas announced on Thursday that State Troopers would no longer be allowed to open fire on suspects from helicopters after the recent killing of two immigrants. While announcing the new policy, Texas Department of Public Safety Director Steve McCraw insisted that the ban on aerial shootings had nothing to do with the October 2012 death of two Guatemalan immigrants, who were gunned down by troopers in helicopter while they were hiding in the back of a speeding pickup truck near La Joya.
Progress at its finest.
Just shoot them from the outside of planes. Problem solved.
Everyone is going to like this until someone escapes while people in a helicopter sit there and watch, unable to shoot. Then everyone will dislike it.
Ugh, looks like I'll have to break out the old hot air balloon again...

Ah, I LOVE a good challange! Jumping from a airplane it is!
I didn't know you were allowed to kill illegals because they are crossing the border.
it says suspects, not immigrants. I'm imagining a violent crime being witnessed, without anyone being able to stop it.

What they don't tell you is that shooting people while hanging from a cord attached to the bottom of a helicopter is technically not shooting from it.

I never even implied that civilians should go around in helicopters shooting people, or that is should be common for police to do so. Just if the need arises, it would suck for them not to be able to. I like how you seem to think I am rambling about "communist liberal laws" when this has nothing to do with economic systems, or even really politics.
I would like to see someone try to shoot anything out of any other aerial vehicle. Not exactly practical to try that out of a hot air balloon.
;39695235']Everyone is going to like this until someone escapes while people in a helicopter sit there and watch, unable to shoot. Then everyone will dislike it.
Lethal force isn't an acceptable response for stopping someone escaping in almost all situations.

With this law, police in a helicopter could witness violent crimes, and stand by while a suspect escapes. What if there isn't a guy on the ground? Guys on the ground are far slower to arrive on a scene than a helicopter.
Lethal force isn't an acceptable response for stopping someone escaping in almost all situations.
Uh if they're a danger to others while escaping it is...?

I'm not saying this is a major thing, just that it is not good to restrict your options to much. Never know when something might be needed.
Uh if they're a danger to others while escaping it is...?
examples of such a situation. They didn't ban shooting from helicopters completely. There are two clear exceptions, if the helicopter is being shot at, or someone on the ground is being shot at.
Just shoot them from the outside of planes. Problem solved.
And then you were the director of the INS
;39695319'](or province trooper, or whatever you call it in Canada.)
musher that title overrides whatever your current occupation is
;39695743']Stopping a crime in progress, as I had stated before.
you don't stop crimes in progress with lethal force generally.
i am sorry everyone
The thread title is really flawed. I was going to suggest the boarder control agencies saving up for an AC-130 and just throw .50s and 25mms on it.
;39695235']Everyone is going to like this until someone escapes while people in a helicopter sit there and watch, unable to shoot. You could shoot people from helicopters? That's one reason I ain't going outside until I get a bullet resistant umbrella.
