The victim, 19-month-old Bounkham Phonesavanh, was injured when the explosive landed next to his pillow during a night-time drug raid.
Speaking to WSBTV, his mother Alecia, from Atlanta, said: ‘It landed in his playpen and exploded on his pillow right in his face. We go up to see him and his whole face is ripped open. He has a big cut on his chest.’
Police confirmed that the raid took place just after 3am, as they had a warrant for the arrest of Wanis Thometheva – a man suspected of having drugs and weapons stashed at the residence.
While Thometheva was arrested, baby Bounkham endured extensive injuries and is in a medically-induced coma, according to his mother.
Police chief Rick Darby told reporters that ‘the entire unit is very broken up about the incident’
I sure hope so.

holy shit.
I can't imagine how the person who deployed that stun grenade feels. I know i would feel sick to my stomach and like the worst person in the world.
I love how vague the video is. I don't remember the exact words and I'm not rewatching but basically the entire reason for the raid was that they were suspected of selling drugs out of the house and that the husband "owned weapons".
So basically they probably sold some pot to a friend and got rekt by the police state

We need far less cops, the amount of times people who aren't harming anyone are caught and arrested for breaking stupid laws with mandatory minimum sentences far outweighs actual justice being served in this country. Gotta keep that prison population up though.
Poor baby :(
I've never understood the logic of "we suspect he may have narcotics/firearms in his posession"
So instead of getting a warrant, staking out his place, and arresting him when he goes to lunch and peacefully searching his home...
...y'kick the door in and shoot the dog (flashbang the baby in this case).
Poor kid :[
I feel bad for the SWAT officer too

How do you expect them to [del]justify their budget[/del] serve and protect you without 10 SWAT Units and a couple of Bearcats. 9/11.
Well that child's life is gonna be one big fucking mess thanks to that.
Special weapons and tactics.

guilty until proven innocent.
I'm tired of the argument that not all cops are bad. All cops are bad, whether they know it or not. All cops work for a completely corrupt entity. No respek.
Damn. That sucks. Flashbangs still explode so you don't want to be near them, that's for sure.
Well, ya know, to win the war on drugs you just gotta shoot some dogs and permanently disfigure some babies.
You a hippie communist or something, you dope-guzzling punk?
The kid took a flash bang to the face? The baby wont survive, there've been full grown adults killed by flashbangs before.

Then go after the problem (corrupt enitity), not the symptom (According to your logic, all cops).

If I had the resources to do anything but go smoke pot at an occupy movement I would

Are you serious?
Are you serious?
Shitposting knows no limits
Are you serious?
Absolutely. I have no respect for police officers.
As humans, yes, I do respect them. Most of them are unaware that they're a part of a terrible maniacal organization. However, I have absolutely no respect whatsoever for the occupation or uniform.

get every person you know to write to their senators about drug legalization
Are you serious?
i can see where he's coming from. if you take money to do evil things then how does that not make you at least somewhat evil?
If I had the resources to do anything but go smoke pot at an occupy movement I would
You do, as have lots of people who've made great change throughout history. Raging about the fucked up system and then going and smoking weed at an occupy movement solves nothing. I see your points, and I think you have passion about them, so fucking do something about it.

Babies are pretty resilient.
Although, as much as I don't want this poor little guy to die, if he's suffered permanent physical and mental trauma, it would be kind of a... bittersweet mercy. Here is a picture of the baby's face in the burns unit, I'm not embedding it because the burns are upsettingly bad.
Nice work breaking a family, "heroes".
Actually, yeah.
HEY, GRADY COUNTY SWAT TEAM. If you're so broken up about this, quit your fucking job because it will happen again and again until we take a stand against the drug war.
If you're real men, you'll do the right thing and stop working for evil. I'm not calling all cops or the entire US governmental system "evil", but the drug war is a campaign of violence and corruption and terror against US citizens on the basis of solving a problem that is, in too many cases, less harmful than the "cure".
Sure, drug dealers live in fear of a SWAT raid, and they should for being criminals.
But now everyone is living in fear of a door-kicking, dog-shooting, and baby-maiming they don't deserve because of an administrative mistake by someone downtown.
Grady County SWAT, are you real men, or are you cowards with kevlar and semi-automatics?
get every person you know to write to their senators about drug legalization
I'm pretty much in a state of hopelessness for this country. Political activism appeals to me, but I feel that the words of citizens will never compete with the money of corporations. That's the only (real) reason I'm not actually involved in politics.

This whole post was wonderful, but I think that we both know the answer to this.
These sort of stories with children involved make me die a little inside. I bet the officer that did it doesn't feel all that great about it either.

Do you go on social media and flip them off?
This is just straight up bad police.
I hope they enjoy that massive lawsuit coming there way

Believe it or not there are police officers that don't abuse their power. I know, big surprise when you base your judgement off of the few bad ones.

The point is that you don't have to abuse your power to be a terrible cop. Did you even read the post?
I'm saying that I disagree with much of the legislature in this country and that our police force is a corrupt organization from top to bottom. Even police officers making completely legal and proper arrests aren't doing jack for this country.

This might sound rude.
But you sound exactly like a stereotypical pothead in a movie.
Like Seth Rogen.
i thought you were permad, yawmwen
He uses caps.
Yawmwen didn't use them because society uses them.
I'm not joking.
