So right now my fledgling collection of vinyls has risen to about 15 pieces or so, many of which are 2 lp sets. I'll take a picture of this collection and show you guys later today (after school) probably.
Tomorrow I'm heading off to San Francisco and I'll be checking out Amoeba Records, so I'm expecting my collection to increase by quite a bit.
I spent the most on my copy of Draft 7.30 by Autechre, 23 dollars.
The most valuable record I have is either Cherry Tree by The National (limited to 500, I believe) or a colored vinyl copy of Tago Mago by Can.
Lets talk about records. I'm willing to share some advice to newbie record collectors.
I'd love to collect vinyl, but I don't have a record player.
I have Lambs Anger by Mr.Oizo and i plan on extending my collection.
I have a bunch of stuff my dad found in the garage, and a while ago I got a few Bruce Springsteen and Roy Orbison singles from Ebay. I've also got a Roy Orbison best of LP.
In the last 6 months I've collected about 25 LPs, the problem is that I have a really shitty record player. I need to invest in one with good quality. Anyone know any really good record players?
I need some money. I recently found a place with a good amount of vinyl, at good prices. When I was there they had a buttload of King Crimson in, and I want it all. I only picked up Discipline while I was there.
Let me see...

One of the best albums out there. Fantastic group.
Yeah, what's the most you guys would spend on a record?
I think I'd go 35 or 40 at the very very max. On a normal record I'd spend up to 25 at the max, but I aim for around 12-15 dollars.
The most I've spent is 30 dollars on a new Amnesiac record.
Metallica - Kill 'em All
Slayer - Show No Mercy
Godspeed You! Black Emperor - F#A#(infinity)
Judas Priest - Priest... LIVE! (rare not-for-sale promo)
Dio - Last in Line
Saxon - Denim and Leather
Metal Church - Metal Church
Voivod - War and Pain
Dead Kennedys - Plastic Surgery Disasters
Replacements - Tim, Pleased to Meet Me
Cheap Trick - Budokan
Kansas - Two For the Show (Live)
There's a local record shop here that sells these for about $1-10 dollars. Great stuff. I'm looking to buy a shitload more, even though I don't have a player rofl!
Seriously though if you're paying more than $10 for a vinyl it should either be SUPER SUPER rare or in MINT condition.
Most I spent was on Kill 'Em All I think (around $15), because that's actually a new vinyl, though I am sure that Priest... Live is worth a lot more. I almost bought a rare promo copy of Diamond Head's Borrowed Time for $20 but I passed on it.
Two for the Show I got for $5-7 and it's a double, same with Priest... Live. The guy also gave me budokan for free because he wasn't sure if it would play. It does.
How do you guys clean your records?
it's too late for me to start collecting vinyl, so i'm going to start collecting cd's
by buying all my favorite albums from obscure websites

My set-up. Usually I have a bean bag in front of these shelves. Upper shelf, far right are Aphex Twin and Autechre, the stack between the CD player and the rack consists of The Orb and Meat Beat Manifesto. The lower shelf consists of other CDs that I play often, along with a selected portion of my library of books.

A spine-view of my records. I believe this is all of it.

Most of my records laid-out.

Cherry Tree, limited red vinyl 7"

The largest lp set I have. Refinement of the Decline by Stars of the Lid.

All three sleeves fit into the folder, like so.

Draft 7.30 by Autechre

Draft 7.30 opened up, along with a better shot of the sleeves (the other side of each sleeve is plain black)

My first two purchases (made before I even got a turntable). What you see here is The Orb's Adventures Beyond the Ultraworld by The Orb (10 dollars), and Pt.2 of Cichlisuite by Autechre (~5 dollars I guess). The sleeves are from Ultraworld.

My main collection of CDs. The rest of my DVDs (movies and music) are underneath that shelf of ps2 games.
I've got quite a few of them but my favourite vinyl that I own is Kraftwerk's Die Mensch-Maschine.
I have around 200 - 300 records. I'll list them all in a minute. Putting it in notepad before I post.
(Now that I think about it, I'll just list my favorites. :3 )

I just bought a record cleaning kit from a nearby music store. Brush, cleaning liquid, and a handy bag to keep it all in.

I use an old Discwasher: Brand Record Care System..
I don't need to clean my records because I know how to handle them without making them dirty.

Yeah, all original. Most of them in pretty good condition too, 95% of the vinyls are flawless, or have minor scratches. And around 70% of the covers are mint.
I've got a bunch of Slayer(Reign In Blood, Seasons In The Abyss), Sepultura(Arise) and The Gun Club(Pastoral Hide & Seek) records, all are rarities due to being from the original press. I'm not a record collector though, those records are just laying around, I don't even have a player to listen to them. My dog chewed on the Pastoral Hide & Seek cover though, so it's not flawless.
My mother has around 400-500 LP's(all of them 20+ years and in so to speak perfect health), I'm currently looking at players to get her, but I have no idea where to even begin.. Any ideas?
I'll take some pictures in the morning
Vinyl.
mmmmmmmmm.
