They've already announced that Ubisoft Montreal will tackle the next Assassin's Creed sequel for 2011, and now it looks like they may be thinking even farther into the future — maybe even into 2020. "Assassin's Creed is our biggest franchise now, and we will invest to keep it big for the next few years – and maybe the next ten years," EMEA sales and marketing chief Geoffroy Sardin told MCV. In the meantime, Sardin confirmed that another game is on the way and that more DLC will be out soon, which we knew from past interviews. "We will have good surprises for players in the weeks and months to come," he explained. With longterm plans and a potential annual frequency of releases in store for AC, the big question still on my mind is whether or not free DLC like "Animus Project Update 1.0" is going to become standard. Ubi might have a vested interest in keeping new, free updates for games coming to keep its audience playing year to year, and giving them more ways to play without price barriers could be a fine strategy for accomplishing that task. More freebees or not, though, 2011 should prove to be an eventful one if you're invested in the franchise.
Assassin's Creed 5: Modern Warfare
If they do it right, and limit themselves to a release every few years, it could carry for a while. There are several environments and time frames they could explore. [editline]3rd December 2010[/editline] Hah, imagine running around Moscow in the 1950s, or Hong-Kong or Tokyo today.
Isn't AC3 set to come out near 'the apocalypse'? AC1 hinted towards it heavily 2011 seems wrong for it.
I can see Assassins Creed becoming similar to CoD, having a new one shat out every year.
Holy shit, a company wants to continue to expand an incredibly popular series and provide its customers with new releases. They shouldn't do that. Now excuse me while I go load up Half-Life 2: Episode 2 and complain about Episode 3 not being released fast enough.
CoD, Madden and Assassins Creed. Now if we stagger them right, I'll never have to go 4 months without playing a sequel that's pissing on its franchises overextended welcome!
My desicion not to bother with AC2 looks like it's getting better and better.
Isn't AC3 set to come out near 'the apocalypse'? AC1 hinted towards it heavily 2011 seems wrong for it.
No, the modern aspect will take place then. The past aspect currently looks to be set to take place during the French Revolution. The French are already in Brotherhood, its just a short jump. [editline]3rd December 2010[/editline] Bitch bitch bitch and not a shred of reasoning.
aren't these games getting significantly better with each one
I won't complain or pass judgment until those future games come out. I'm a fan of the AC series my self because all them have some improvement/addition over the original. I do hope they put an end to the main story first and don't drag it out for a decade. But hey Star Wars has dragged its ass around since the 70's and its still alright.
aren't these games getting significantly better with each one
Of course not. How could they? Sequels can never good.
Everyone is eventually going to get bored of the same game mechanics.
My desicion not to bother with AC2 looks like it's getting better and better.
AC2 was good, but I'm not so sure about everything else in the future + Brotherhood.
Everyone is eventually going to get bored of the same game mechanics.
then why are generic FPS's so popular still
then why are generic FPS's so popular still
They aren't. Console FPS games are really few and far between anymore, and are really dominated by the popular franchises. Games like Call of Duty always try to add shitloads of variety to their story modes to break up the monotony of the normal shooting. So far it seems that AS has just been "climb buildings, find guy, stab guy, climb buildings to another mission", with a few new gimmicks thrown in between games. The things keeping the franchise fresh are the story and settings, which are always nice. There's only so far you can push some things though.
Of course not. How could they? Sequels can never good.
I'd like to buy a verb.
Prediction: JFK was a Templar, and the Assassins were responsible for killing him. In a future sequel, you will be the second shooter. I predicted this before AC2 even came out, by the way. It makes sense: the games' plot is a conspiracy nut's wet dream.

While that argument holes true for brotherhood they knew this and added multiplayer to the game since its not a full blown sequel. My point being is that they recognized that they need to add variety and listened to constructive criticism which is a sign of a good developer.
They practically changed the way the game played in AC2 compared to AC1. Brotherhood was not meant to be a sequel. That is why is takes place in the same time-frame as Assassin's Creed 2, and did not have the title "Assassin's Creed 3". [editline]3rd December 2010[/editline]
Yeah but the multiplayer is basically the Ship with shitty spawns and overused character models.
Do you have any idea how the multiplayer works? For instance, why all the people look the same?
They're honestly not that good. I only enjoyed the first one anyway.
They're honestly not that good. I only enjoyed the first one anyway.
the first one bored me to death. and I play EVE and world of tanks.
except the point of half life episode three is to end the half life story, just as the episode before it continued it the point of the assassins creed sequels is to make lots and lots of money
When has Valve ever said Episode 3 is the end of the Half-Life story?
except the point of half life episode three is to end the half life story, just as the episode before it continued it
Uh, no. Episode Three will end the Half-Life 2 saga. There will still be a Half-Life 3, and probably more.
Why don't they try and salvage the story and finish it off. Then they can use this stealth system but modify it and make and entirely different series.
Ohh, and remember when everyone said "Halo 3 will be the end of the series."? Yeah, about that...
then why are generic FPS's so popular still
because the point of an fps is to hone your skills against human opponents whereas the point of assassin's creed is to fight AI
Ohh, and remember when everyone said "Halo 3 will be the end of the series."? Yeah, about that...
It ended Master Chief's story arc, not the series.
