A graduated driver licensing (GDL) scheme could save up to 200 lives a year and avoid 14,000 casualties saving Britain 890 million pounds in the process as well, researchers from Cardiff University said.
Fuck off Cardiff University, thanks.
They do this here with motorcycles but not cars here. I think it makes sense for motorcycles, as you need to learn how to be seen and such first, but I'm not so sure about this for cars. If they implement it, any penalties should be very minor and not be a real offense.
They want to restrict people from driving with their friends in the car as well which ignores half the point of learning to drive so you can go out with your mates.

They said on the radio when i heard this at work that it will never happen because we don't have enough police officers to enforce it.
I'm pretty sure the people that would have crashed outside, will still probably crash inside the curfew
They said on the radio when i heard this at work that it will never happen because we don't have enough police officers to enforce it.
What they would probably end up doing (and is what they do around my area) is have it be a secondary offense. This means they wouldn't stop you for just that, but if you get stopped for other reasons, they can charge you with that offense.
I'm pretty sure they already do this. A few of my mates have been driving for about a year and they can only drive before 11. It would suck if they had night jobs but none of them do. One thing's for sure; it definately cuts down on their insurance.
That's how they do it in New Jersey, here in the states. Never had an issue with it.
Some insurance policies place a curfew on young drivers anyway, a friend of mine had one that kept him from driving past 11pm
Won't happen, even if it does, nobody will do it.
this is going to suck for people who have night jobs(eg me)
Because no one has a night job. :downs:

this is going to suck for people who have night jobs(eg me)
There's similar laws here in Australia that P platers can't drive with a certain number of people in the car after a certain time, exceptions are made for people who need to travel at night (work, school, etc). They'll probably have the same exceptions in the UK.
this is going to suck for people who have night jobs(eg me)
Even if they passed the law right now, it probably wouldn't actually come into force for another few months at the least. (If passing laws works anything like the US in the UK) So you would be past the amount of time you need on your license anyway.
Until you get your unrestricted license in Tennessee, you can't drive after a certain time. I can't remember what time because I don't have a restricted anymore. Also, if you have a late job, you can get proof and an exception will be made for you.

They install boxes in the cars to monitor their position in return for cheaper rates.
They do this in my state for drivers under the age of 18. Though its hardly ever enforced since you can't really see how old a person is at night looking through there windshield
New drivers in Texas DO face curfew.
They already do this in NJ. The recently changed it from no driving between midnight and 6am to 11pm and 6am. The thing I don't understand is why would you want all the new drivers out during the day when the roads are crowded rather then at night when they are more likely to just hurt themselves.
Pretty much if a cop pulls me over and im on a night job, i'd just say i work at night so fucking deal with it like i have to.
So new drivers will have less night-time driving experience as they get older? Good idea.
If only ATI payed this much attention to their drivers.
In California people under 18 who just got their licence can't drive after 11:00 PM or before 5:00 AM for a year.

They already do this in the US, I can't drive past 11.
http://www.i-kube.co.uk/ It's a scheme which involves putting a GPS device in your car and monitoring when you're driving. If you drive between the hours of 5AM and 1PM then there's no charge. If you do then it's £45 for the night. Putting this thing on gives you a 40% discount on your insurance. As far as I can see this is the only way I could ever afford to drive before I go to university. If these plans are accepted does that make this redundant?
Because no one has a night job. :downs:
In Maryland there is an exception if you can prove you have a job that required you to work that late. [editline]06:44AM[/editline]
They already do that here, for six months after your license you can't have anyone under 21 who isn't a direct family member without someone who is over 21 and has had their license for 2+ years in the front passenger's seat.
Holy crap do you live in Maryland? Its the same exact law here. Although its Provisional License not Drivers License. And if you're older than 18 it doesn't apply.
So, when i get a car i'm going to paint it florescent yellow and put silver stripes on it, that way everyone can see me at night, and i will be safe.

I never saw anyone having a problem with the GDL program up here in MI
