Dualbooting 2 Different OS's on 2 Different Monitors
22 replies, posted
I have been researching and I cannot find a way to be able to have Backtrack 5 on 1 Monitor and Windows on another Monitor. Please reply with any helpful information because I want to know if it is possible or not.
You won't be able to run two operating systems concurrently unless you're using some form of virtualization for one or both.
Not directly possible on only one machine, but have you tried using a virtual machine.
Try VMWare or Virtualbox.
Yeah I have Virtualbox running right now but I cannot get it to 1920x1080. Any explanation?

Did you install the Virtualbox drivers?
(on the guest OS)
I am doing that right now. I will let you know how it works out

I got it enlarged but it is choppy at full screen and is not as responsive.

That doesn't make any sense to me.. Which OS are you emulating?
Backtrack 5
eh, if you're doing troubleshooting virtualization probaly isn't the best answer.
specs of the machine you are using. Virtualizing ain't exactly easy for the cpu.

So you installed the Virtualbox drivers and changed the resolution in the settings? (Or look in the X11 config). I have no idea how you forced it to strech.

eh, fun way to output it but I got the essentials. But did you care to read what I wrote?
yeah I just used dxdiag because I did not remember all those numbers lol and I just maximized the window. I tried increasing the resolution inside BT5 but it would not go any higher.

W8 is great.
OP, did you enable vt-x and 3d/2d acceleration in Virtualbox?
Also I remember that you needed to install "guest addons" in ubuntu to get it to run at a high resolution in vm box. I dont know if this is just for Ubuntu, but it worked.
The best way to dual boot on two monitors if virtualization isn't working for you is two computers.
If you have a laptop or something, you could dual boot that with backtrack, and plug it into the monitor, then use Synergy to control them both from one keyboard and mouse.

Synergy is probably the best way but it requires another computer. It's impossible to have two operating systems running at the same time on one computer without having one virtualized
