Urban exploration (often shortened as urbex or UE) is the examination of the normally unseen or off-limits parts of urban areas or industrial facilities.[1] Urban exploration is also commonly referred to as infiltration, although some people consider infiltration to be more closely associated with the exploration of active or inhabited sites. It may also be referred to as "draining" (when exploring drains) "urban spelunking", "urban caving", or "building hacking". The nature of this activity presents various risks, including both physical danger and the possibility of arrest and punishment. Many, but not all, of the activities associated with urban exploration could be considered trespassing or other violations of local or regional laws, including - but not limited to - invasion of privacy and certain broadly interpreted anti-terrorism laws.[2]
Me and Bengley are organising a Facepunch Urban Exploring meet up on Saturday the 22nd of May(Depending on which day is best for everyone). This will hopefully be more exiteing than the other FP meetups, and more for thrill seekers than people wanting to wander around London all day. Since urban exploring has its dangers, you will have to follow mine and Bengleys instruction (as we know what we are doing) and follow the urban explorers rules. I wrote a guide on this, which you will need to read if you are going to come, and I advise you to look up on other guides as well: http://www.facepunch.com/showthread.php?t=923166 The Location For this meetup we are going to visit Smithfield market in Farringdon, London. Bengley has already visited this site so we will know the ways in/out and how to get around. If you want to see photos of the place check out Bengleys thread: http://www.facepunch.com/showthread.php?t=921274 Or this report on 28dayslater (Urbex Forum): http://www.28dayslater.co.uk/forums/showthread.php?t=48501&highlight=London Equipment and safety This place was built before Asbestos was generally used in construction, so there will be no need to wear asbestos masks. However Bengley says it is extremely dusty so it would be advisable to wear P1 masks. I found a good deal on a 20 pack of masks for a tenner, so I will bring enough for everyone and you can get them for 50p each off me to justify the cost (I'm broke :v:). As for the artistic types out there you are free to bring your camera's, I will be filming the whole thing and Bengley will be taking photographs with his SLR. If you do take any photos/videos please post them in the resulting thread we will make. Remember, read my guide, and use your common sense, we do not want someone who will risk our lives or get us arrested to come with us. If you want to attend, it doesn't matter what age you are as long as you have common sense and are mature. If you are under 18 please make sure your parents are OK with you doing this. If you are going to come just let us know here, more details will be given at a later date. First timers are welcome! Attendees: B-Hazard - Organiser Bengley - Organiser Watercolour Watercolour's friend Zin908(Justin...CUNT! guy)
bengley attends everything
He sits on his computer waiting for somone to post anything with the words "Meetup"
Dang, wish I could come. :frown: Also I would want to meet up with you guys. :smug:
God-dammit FPUK have something somewhere a bit more central London may be the capital but it's all the way down South For the next meeting I suggest Birmingham or Wolverhampton
He sits on his computer waiting for somone to post anything with the words "Meetup"
I'm usually the one who organises it :v: This time it's myself and hazard organizing it, he's gonna buy dust masks and stuff.
Damn exams :frown:
Aww shit man, I just finished mine. Hoping this doesn't clash with other peoples exams, if so we can shift it to another date.
Damn exams :frown:
weekend
Aww shit man, I just finished mine. Hoping this doesn't clash with other peoples exams, if so we can shift it to another date.
Lucky you. My first is a week tomorrow then carry on for a month and a half, so that's a terrible weekend from my perspective.
Sure. I'll fly in from Iceland. Anyone got a spare plane ticket? Must be from Reykjavik to London.
I'll go if you pay for all the services needed to fly to the UK and back.
Sure. I'll fly in from Iceland. Anyone got a spare plane ticket? Must be from Reykjavik to London.
What about the Ejaffoelelllwhatthefuckell' volcano?
I'll be there [editline]08:57PM[/editline] From my computer
Wish I could come, but I'm too far north =[
I would go, but I resit my History GCSE on the 22nd. Besides, I'm all the way up in Newcastle.
What about the Ejaffoelelllwhatthefuckell' volcano?
Damn, forgot. Okay, make that a boat trip.
Someone think aboot us Canadians, eh buddy?
Damn exams :frown:
Ditto
It appears everyone has exams, would this Saturday be better?
Need an East Coast meet up. I could probably get two other FP'ers to go to it who I am IRL friends with.
I'd love to go down into the tunnels of Fort Widley sometime, but if i can get to london on this date i'll be sure to attend.
If this we're right in the middle of my exams I'd be a definite. I've always wanted to go Urbex-ing but there's no where nearby to explore and no one else who's willing to travel.
It appears everyone has exams, would this Saturday be better?
I'd say after exams (probably July). But then there's probably plenty of people who can make it anyways so yeah.
It always has to be London, doesn't it? :sigh: Maybe if there's ever anything in Scotland/North of England I'd be able to attend.
I'd love to go, but I can't do anything outside of Basketball and Gymnastics, I'd probably get lost in my own bathroom.
If I'd time (which I have none and the time I have in precious indeed) then I'd come. Also I'm not willing to brave the long train journey from Leeds to London.
It always has to be London, doesn't it? :sigh: Maybe if there's ever anything in Scotland/North of England I'd be able to attend.
This a billion times.
Something in the Northwest godammit! :argh:
well you guys are complaning about it not being in london, why dont you organise something yourself? london is probably the easiest place to meet for FP members jeez
