Wikipedia page: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Shoegazing Shoegaze AKA the 'Scene That Celebrates Itself' is known for it's heavily distorted guitars, dreamy vocals and a general psychedelic atmosphere. Born (and died) in the late eighties - early nineties, shoegaze started in the UK as an 'underground' genre, that quickly swelled with popularity. The name 'shoegaze' comes from the disposition of the performer's themselves. A good majority of them would stand, almost non-nonchalantly and subdued, appearing less 'confrontational' than your angsty grunge artist or punk star. From what I understand, shoegaze kind-of died in the early-mid 90's as it became overshadowed by more popular genres and artists. Rising in popularity today however, is dreampop and nu gaze. Hopefully the brief 'history lesson' is up to par. Dude, thanks for posting this! I thought LSD were dead. So glad I'm wrong.
I just got Swoon by Silversun Pickups on vinyl over the weekend So chill blasting it in my darkened room
Never liked them. Not 'dreamy' enough for me. But nice you were able to nab a vinyl.
I didn't realize Silversun Pickups were considered shoegaze though I can kind of see it now
The Slowdive demos are a pretty cool listen.
