Read on for the trailer description along with a video of the panel. Trailer Description A city decimated. Completely destroyed. The camera pans by the wreckage of a train, A distant voice is heard giving a speech about the dangers of atomic weapons from J. Robert Oppenheimer. Dust everywhere. Cars crushed. Holes in skyscrapers. We then see a giant centipede-like creature with many arms and legs smoldering. (You know what that means? Monster battles!) The city appears dead as a doornail. Then blackness. THE ROAR. As in THE roar. Huge bass drop. Raymond Burr finishes his famous speech. Dust...then an arm... a hand... with claws. Pan up... holy shit... the fins. The head. Godzilla. As we know him. The real fucking Godzilla. He roars again. Fade to GODZILLA! With red Japanese title behind it."I wanted to do Godzilla as if this really happened. How people would really deal with this kind of disaster," says director Gareth Edwards. Bless his heart! Max Borenstein (The Seventh Son) wrote the script, and Gareth Edwards, the director of the indie sci-fi movie Monsters, directs the creature feature centered on the giant city-destroying and monster-fighting lizard for Legendary Pictures. Legendary's Thomas Tull and Jon Jashni are producing along with Dan Lin, Roy Lee, and Brian Rogers. Warner Bros. will distribute per its deal with Legendary. David Goyer (The Dark Knight) previously worked on the script.
If it turns out shitty, Toho in Japan will make a movie in retaliation to save his name. Look at Godzilla from 1998. Godzilla 2000 was released in Japan no more than a year later.
Speaking of which, surely I'm not the only one who actually kinda likes the earlier Godzilla movie?
I would have been fine with it as just another action movie with a monster, but the turn-off is that they called it Godzilla.
Speaking of which, surely I'm not the only one who actually kinda likes the earlier Godzilla movie?
I loved all Godzilla films except, THAT ONE
Well they can't do much less justice to the series than the 1998 film [editline]17th July 2012[/editline]
"I wanted to do Godzilla as if this really happened. Japanese Godzilla was the shit! Not only the monster battles were awesome, but if you actually paid atention to the flick, it was quite well written.
I wonder if this godzilla is going to have a billion baby velociraptors [editline]17th July 2012[/editline] wait is this going to be like cloverfield? i hope so that'd be awesome
Trailer for "Monsters", in case someone doesn't know what the movie was about.
Oh my god my BALLS This is going to be amazing
I am extremely excited about this. Godzilla was a childhood hero for me. I watched all the classic movie and even have a number of them on VHS (yeah, those things still exist in my household :v: )
The American Godzilla is not to be spoken of. End of story.

I've been waiting 8 years for this news
They better not fuck this up like they did last time.
Godzilla VHS childhood bros
Can I join your club bro?
Please don't be god awful like the American one I'm pretty sure it was confirmed that the godzilla in that movie wasn't actually godzilla but another large creature by the name of 'zilla' or something I think japan actually made a movie where the real godzilla beat the shit out of that one

I mean the only thing I liked was the whole culture adaptation thing of the setting, other than that the entire movie seemed subpar. And the fucking monster design :v:

So satisfying.
Does anyone else remember the terrible Godzilla cartoon that was made after the movie? I think that one egg that was still alive at the end hatched and became their friend for some reason or something like that.
The American Godzilla is not to be spoken of. End of story.
I loved it :( The dialogue was shit on a sandwich 90% of the time, but the CGI and sound design were spectacular and their visual interpretation of Godzilla was much more interesting (in my opinion) than the Japanese original. But, that's just me.

Well, it's your opinion but generally most people and the majority of the godzilla fanbase think that the series was the only good thing that came out of the 1998 movie. Personally I loved the 1998 movie as a kid and still do as well as the old japanese ones, rented it like 5 times on a VHS at one point.
I liked the 1998 Godzilla movie as a monster movie and not as a Godzilla movie. Something just screamed "this is not a Godzilla movie" when they took him/her down with regular missiles when he/she got stuck in a fucking BRIDGE. [editline]17th July 2012[/editline] And that's ignoring the fact that it looked and behaved almost nothing like the original Godzilla.

But, that's just me.
My problem was that it wasn't a representation of Godzilla at all. It was a grey dinosaur that ate fish. It had nothing to do with Godzilla's lore, physical features or contain any relevance to the character. Godzilla was an anti-hero who was emotional, unnaturally powerful and sometimes witty. His character changes and evolves over many decades between a kung-fu joker to a brooding demi-god and back again. The American Godzilla had no character, no emotion, no nothing. It was just a dragon for the American's to defeat, which essentially makes the whole thing pointless as a 'Godzilla' movie.

Come to think of it, I really did just enjoy the 1998 Godzilla for the spectacle rather than the substance.

Godzilla was more believable- he wasn't some godly superlizard that had logical intents and such, but he was an animal that imprinted on the wrong person. So, though in principle the reasoning is different, Zilla this time around is still the total bro that Godzilla sometimes is. Still an antihero (I mean, he's a 300 foot tall dinosaur-esque mutant that breathes fire/plasma/lasers), and still capable of a decent emotional range. Also, I think I'm due for some flak from this, but am I the only person who likes 98 Zilla's design a lot more than the normal Godzilla? The theropod design was cool, and stuck to the whole "giant ass monster that could eat a Tyrannosaur for a light snack" idea. [editline]17th July 2012[/editline] Bear in mind that literally all of my impressions regarding this stuff happened from when I was 3 when the 98 movie came out to when I was maybe 10, which is when I last saw a Godzilla movie. I'll be going into college when this one comes out, if it's on track for a Fall 2013 release.

It looked strong, it looked intelligent, and it looked agile. Above all that though, it was animated REALLY well and had a great sense of weight and movement.
