I'm looking for a new sound card and pair of headphones. High quality and surround sound are a must, and not too high on the price side. Wireless would be a bonus on the headphones too. In the UK here. Would appreciate any help you can give me guys.
Your budget for the sound card is?
I dunno, probably max £100 for the whole thing or something.
I dunno, probably max £100 for the whole thing or something.
You won't get much of a sound card for 100 £, but i'll try my best. [editline]10:11AM[/editline] Also wait 100 £ for soundcard and headphones?

I'm thinking an Audio Technica A700 for headphones. Any idea on sound-cards?
http://www.ebuyer.com/product/158667 - Plantronics Gamecom 377 ( I've got it and it's fantastic ) 25.04 + http://www.ebuyer.com/product/190498 - Creative Sound Blaster X-Fi 55.63 80.67 Or if you want to push it a bit more get those headset (or the 367 version which is a couple quid cheaper) and http://www.ebuyer.com/product/127553 80.70 X-FI xtreme = 105.74

It's the absolute best set of headphones for this price range. [editline]02:51PM[/editline] anyone who tells him otherwise will get their throats slit

They use low quality parts and overall cheap shit with their cards. Asus is much better and I honestly wouldn't even recommend a sound card usually. I have that same card and it's not bad but Asus' cards are much much better in terms of both sound and build quality.
closed or open (noise isolation or no) what music you listen to (genre) [editline]06:58PM[/editline] in that budget you probably don't need a sound card [editline]06:58PM[/editline] it's better to buy a nice headphones and no soundcard then mediocre headphone and mediocre soundcard [editline]06:59PM[/editline] oh wait are these for gaming?
Ok, turns out I don't need a new sound-card. I like the look of the A700s, but they're really expensive in the UK - can I import them cheaper from somewhere?

ASUS' lower end sound cards are crap. Creative is always the brand you go to for sound cards. You can argue it all you want, but a CAL-I level player of CS 1.6 has used both and recommends the Creative X-Fi line fully because of the EAX 5.0 and CMSS 3D support. [editline]10:16PM[/editline] Oh, and, me too (CAL-I/M exp).
CS 1.6 is old gay bullshit
Uh okay? And it takes twenty times more skill than games nowadays.
Uh okay? And it takes twenty times more skill than games nowadays.
doesn't mean its fun
doesn't mean its fun
Maybe not for you. Why the fuck are you arguing this?
is OP using these for gaming
Yes.

Using a Xonar DX + AD 700s here recommended I think Xonar DX is worth the extra over the DS
Using a Xonar DX + AD 700s here recommended I think Xonar DX is worth the extra over the DS
Same here.
doesn't mean its fun
Dude, shut up
So I just got my ATH A700s in the post, trying them out now.
I just bought a ASUS Xonar DS(sound card). It's pretty nice, I love it's low-profile and all. And sooo much better than the last sound card I had(Creative, don't know exactly what to be honest).
So, my first impressions of these A700s. Firstly, wow, they're comfortable. They don't have a way of adjusting the size, but they fit to your head beautifully, and they're so soft and comfortable, they're awesome. Second, the sound quality is amazing. Music sounds much better, and the sensitivity of the sounds is incredible - I tried out CS-Office in the CS:S Beta and I could hear almost EVERYTHING. I could hear the garage doors opening from T-Spawn, windows breaking from miles away and hear footsteps through walls, it's wonderful.
Glad you like them. Consider the Xonar DX if you get a sound card. As soon as I connected mine up I perceived a big improvement over the on-board with my DX, in games and listening to music. Helps a lot, and is especially noticeable with the DX.
