The Liberal-National Party member for Bowman was speaking in the chamber about the cruise liner industry on Tuesday night when he picked up two bottles of bunker oil. He poured some of the contents of thick black fuel onto his hand and it spilled onto the desk and floor of the chamber. Speaker Bronwyn Bishop said such action was "totally disorderly, disrespectful of the house and the Federation Chamber" and potentially dangerous to people in the chamber. She said it had caused damage which was now being repaired. "I do apologise," Mr Laming told parliament on Wednesday. He was then suspended for 24 hours after the Speaker "named" him under parliamentary rules. "I thank the member for that apology but nonetheless I consider the offence to be so serious and of such disorderly nature that I name the member for Bowman," she said. Mr Laming said in a statement the oil should be banned.
https://au.news.yahoo.com/a/26798254/mp-suspended-for-pouring-oil-in-chamber/?cmp=fb
Is that the first time Bronny has suspended a member on her right from parliament Incredible
Is that the first time Bronny has suspended a member on her right from parliament Incredible
she's an incredibly biased speaker, they should have chosen someone who doesn't have strong political affiliations with anybody
lol, like who?
idk, would a crossbencher work out better?
idk, would a crossbencher work out better?
That's not how the role of the speaker works.
It's just the way politics has always been heading. As we get more and more about mass media coverage they're more and more about image. And Labour politicians being booted out every day is a much better look than a single biased speaker.
That's not how the role of the speaker works.
reading on wiki, in the traditional Westminster way, an assigned speaker normally quits their party's alliance but in Australia you don't have to Peter Slipper did, but I always assumed it should be someone who doesn't align with a party
