Every now and then, my E drive will for some reason disappear. I can't find it in My Computer, it doesn't show up in Partition Manager and I can't even access it. Usually a reboot helps, but this time it didn't work. Anyone have any idea?
What kind of Drive is your E: drive? An external HD? A disc drive? A flash drive?
If it is an external HD it may not be getting enough power. This especially might be the case if it is plugged into a USB Hub or into the USB ports on the front rather than back of your case.
It's an internal HD, you know, one of those big clunky ones that you put in the HD bay.
Technically it is a 5.25" Internal Hard Drive. Not "big and clunky".
If it worked previously and is not now, have you made any hardware changes? A new graphics card, or etc...?
You also might try disconnecting your C drive and booting with a linux live cd to see if you can access the E drive that way (Repeat this several times if it does work just to make sure the problem is not intermittent) If that works then you know the drive is not faulty. Next try to boot from live cd and access both drives (plug main HD back in), if they both work then it is not a power / BIOS / firmware issue.
Once you rule all of those out, all that leaves is a Windows issue, which I'm sure someone more versed with HDD issues can help you with.
You might also (assuming you use Windows) try to go into Computer Management, then Disk Management to see if it's there.

It isn't there.

It's not because of hardware changes, because it dropped out a few minutes ago at random. Last time, it came back at random.
Either its Windows or the drive is going bad. If its windows, good luck. Try using Ultimate Boot CD to test the drive. I am pretty sure it includes drive diagnostic tools and checkers.
Something peculiar, my custom icons, which are stored on E, are still showing.
Nevermind, they just stopped again.
Got fixed, something wrong with the connection between the HDD and the mobo.
Back again, but now more info.
I just put something onto the E drive. I suddenly heard a click-ish sound, like what some of you might hear when you turn your PC off. I then got a message in the tray saying something about 'delayed write failed'.

If it's a hard drive, that either means it dead, or near death.

Seriously? FFFFFUUUUUUUUUUCCCCCKKKK!!!!!! Seriously, my dad picked just the right time to go to fuckin Iraq, he's the one who decides on this sort of stuff and he's not coming back until fucking saturday next week!!!
Hahaha, I was going to suggest checking your connections. Anyway, is it a big deal if your mom got you one?

My dad just went to Iraq :buddy:.
Is he a soldier, or something different?

Nah, my dad works for Shell at the lab. He was meant to go to Iraq a couple of weeks ago. So he left for Dubai to get his medical. Some bombing shit happened somewhere so he got sent back. And now he's going to Iraq for real.

Let me put it this way:
Last night, my mom wanted to look at some photos. She right clicked the start menu, pressed 'explore' and then had absolutely no clue on how to find the G drive, (which contained our photos backup, phew), so she actually had to call me over to show her where the G drive was. So take a wild guess if I trust her.
You could always point her in the right direction of which hard drive to get. Besides, don't your parents talk? You could tell one or both your parents the hard drive is going bad and make a suggestion as to a new one.
500GB drives are dirt cheap, even the good brands.
Even if your dad is out of town, if it is on business I am sure there are ways to get ahold of him, such as email or etc...
Backup everything on that drive ASAP before the drive fails
UPDATE!!!!
So after getting permission from my dad, I opened up the case to try and unplug and reconnect the HDD. After opening it up, I realised I didn't know which of the 3 the culprit actually was. So I thought 'let's boot it up and check device manager which 2 are showing up. That leaves only one out, right?'. I booted up the computer, checked Device manager.....and found 3 HDD's. Eh? I checked my computer. The E drive suddenly showed up again! Backed it up onto another drive and went downstairs. When I came back after about an hour, backup had finished and the E drive had disappeared.
The funny thing here is that I didn't even do anything, besides opening the case up, leading me to believe that the thing is overheating, either due to the weather (temps of over 23 degrees aren't helping) or due to a lack of space in the case. I mention this, because the contents of the case are all over the place, it's VERY crowded. Could this be a cause?
Hard drives do not generate much heat. Typically they aren't located in the case next to any other heat producing component either.
The odds of your hdd overheating are extremely slim.
