Seriously, don't we have enough Marijuana threads in GD? Yes and no, yes we do have alot of them but most of them just sound like a person ranting and raving about how Marijuana is such a great drug and there there is no disadvantages to smoking herb. Thus, I am making a thread covering the history, uses, slander and facts of marijuana, I hope you enjoy. Why was Marijuana made illegal in the first place? Well, lets start off the reason U.S made Marijuana illegal. It goes back to the early 1900's when Marijuana started getting bad rep, but from who? William Randolf Hearst and Harry J. Anslinger and the DuPont, lets start off with Mr. Hearst. First of all he had a big potion of money tied into the lumber industry and the owner of a huge chain of newspapers that used lumber made newspapers. At the time the lumber industry was being threatened by hemp which could be grown in rotation annually over a twenty year period that produced as much pulp for paper as about 4 acres of trees being cut down over the same twenty year period. You can obviously see why he wanted it illegal, it was easier to harvest and used less chemicals than turning lumber into paper. Now lets go over to Dupont, The makers of the first synthetic rubber, the first polyester superpolymer, nylon in 1935. The main reason they wanted the hemp industry out of businesses was that the hemp industry's hemp fiber cloth would compete with Nylon, one of the biggest industry's of the time. Now over onto Harry J. Anslinger, the first commissioner of the Federal bureau of Narcotics (FBN). Lets just look at some quote's made by him using racism and slander to scare the public into support of the illegalization.

“By the tons it is coming into this country — the deadly, dreadful poison that racks and tears not only the body, but the very heart and soul of every human being who once becomes a slave to it in any of its cruel and devastating forms…. Marijuana is a short cut to the insane asylum. Smoke marijuana cigarettes for a month and what was once your brain will be nothing but a storehouse of horrid specters. Hashish makes a murderer who kills for the love of killing out of the mildest mannered man who ever laughed at the idea that any habit could ever get him….”
"There are 100,000 total marijuana smokers in the US, and most are Negroes, Hispanics, Filipinos and entertainers. Their Satanic music, jazz and swing, result from marijuana usage. This marijuana causes white women to seek sexual relations with Negroes, entertainers and any others."
"Two Negros took a girl fourteen years old and kept her for two days under the influence of hemp. Upon recovery she was found to be suffering from syphilis."
Now, im going to jump about thirty or so years onto the "War on Drugs" declared by President Richard Nixon, creating the Drug Enforcement Agency (DEA). The war on drugs was believed to grab attention from the Vietnam War, which most of the public didn't support. The "War on Drugs" cost the United States around Forty-Billion a year, on average. The costs associated with funding police department drug units and running federal prisons take money away from funding public education and running colleges and universities.State prison budgets are growing twice as fast as spending on public colleges and universities. Many Americans are beginning to realize that the war on drugs is failing. According to the United Nations, drug trafficking is a four- hundred-billion per year industry, equaling 8% of the world's trade. So the longer we stay in a drug prohibition the more money criminals will get in their pockets. What are the benefits of smoking marijuana and the negatives though? Despite the opposition the government research has to show, it does have several well-documented beneficial effects. There has been recent medical studies preformed by Scripps Research Institute that point the active ingredient in marijuana (THC) that have been shown to reduce Alzheimer's. Marijuana has also shown to alleviate vascular pressure associated with glaucoma ( The disease in which the optic nerve is damaged, leading to progressive, irreversible loss of vision.) and lessen the effects of stress. It has also been shown to reduce the spread of breast cancer and is a safe and painless alternative to chemotherapy, study done by the California Pacific Medical Center. There have also been many studies by University of California, San Diego School of Medicine aswell as Colombia University that show an improvement in AIDS/HIV patients. It has also been shown to reduce Brain Cancer tumors showed a study from the Complutense University of Madrid. But there are still negative effects like short term memory loss after long time use. It has also been linked to cause schizophrenia but this is debated by many. There are risk, but everything has risk and in my opinion the benefits outweigh the risk in marijuana use. There has never been a single death recorded due to smoking marijuana. What are the different method's of use? There are many ways to ingest marijuana, some of the most common are a joint, bong, pipe, brownies and vaporizers. The most safe and weed economical way to inhale marijuana would be to use a vaporizer. Vaporizers are shown to increase the total inhaled THC and reduces the total carbon dioxide and other toxins inhaled. Marijuana culture There have been many stoner movies made some of the most common are Pineapple Express, Harold and Kumar, Super High Me (which is a documentary), Half Baked and How High. Musicians include, Bob Marley, Cyprus Hill, 311, Sublime, Pink Floyd, Jimi Hendrix and many others. Also the weed holiday's and festivals, one that we all know in love is 4/20, along with Hash Bash in Michigan, Ann Arbor and Seattle Hempfest. I hope that this will hold you off for now, ill update this tomorrow, happy toking guys Also if you want me to add any info. to the thread just ask and I will see what I can do.
" Studys" lol. Good start. Also, way to say you're going to list negatives but you never go into them. Good biased article, would read again.
marijuana makes you high
And we care?
Two in one fucking day. Jesus Christ. Weed is good in amounts.
Another pot thread? Maybe we should have a giant pot megathread where people can pointlessly debate the topic of pot.
smoking kills
Whether it's illegal or not, people smoke it.
And we care?
You don't have to care, I just made the thread to inform people.

Decently put together, although biased towards one side. Still though, you present a good point. Not many people are educated as to why marijuana is illegal, they just think that it always has and don't think any more about it. I only know this to be true because I did my junior project on hemp and everyone was like " Wtf?" Keep toking :)
weed lol [editline]02:41AM[/editline] frog says weed poop for all to hear
It's not perfect for you but it's less bad for you than either alcohol or cigarettes.
I rated OP informative even though he called Super High-Me a documentary. He clearly put effort into the thread and I think he should be rewarded for it.
I rated OP informative even though he called Super High-Me a documentary. He clearly put effort into the thread and I think he should be rewarded for it.
That movie does show some interesting facts.
Half Baked is such a good movie.
[img_thumb]http://dl.dropbox.com/u/7110851/MaryJ_Facts.jpg[/img_thumb]
Seriously? Marijuana is decriminalized in Australia? Can any Aussies here testify to this?
Tired of the 'hurrdurr weed is the best thing ever it makes you smart and cures all diseases' threads.
I guess these potato chips describe me. Baked Get it? Huh? Huh? :saddowns:
Another pot thread? Maybe we should have a giant pot megathread where people can pointlessly debate the topic of pot.
There is something in the custom section at the bottom of the home page...

I hate weed threads, it only attracts idiots on both sides
He meant Carbon Monoxide.
He meant Carbon Monoxide.
Psshhh. One oxygen off, close enough.
Seriously? Marijuana is decriminalized in Australia? Can any Aussies here testify to this?
I talked to an Australian before and said weed was almost taboo around where he lived, and he thought it was a very horrible drug that only bad people used until he got to America where he realized it is indeed a relatively safe drug and a lot of people do it.
Seriously? Marijuana is decriminalized in Australia? Can any Aussies here testify to this?
Some states it is, it's pretty lax in my state and I don't live in a state where it is decriminalized. For example, some people I know were caught by cops smoking a bong in a park, the cops told them to go do it where other people wont be able to see.
Hilarious, I just made a waterfall bong and said WELL LETS SEE WHATS ON FACEPUNCH. Good thread.
Carbon dioxide isn't a toxin
It is. It's produced by living organisms and prolonged exposure to even slightly elevated levels of carbon dioxide causes discomfort and nausea.
I don't understand why Mr. Hearst didn't jump on the potential business from hemp rather than let it go. If you look at it in the long run. Hemp would seem more cost effective.
