• Does the Internet take away from life or add to it?

What do you guys think? Personally, I think I use it for the wrong things :smug:
It doesn't matter what you use it for, the fact that you're using it means it's adding to your life somehow. Even if that means you get to watch your sick, twisted sado-masochistic porn, OP.
It depends on how you use it, to the average person I guess it takes away life and at the same time adds to it. It may distract you from other things in life but it's also a new world and you can learn a lot from it.
Life - Internet = Life - Internet Life + Internet = Life + Internet [editline]value[/editline] I do math.
My life is the internet
I think it adds to life, theres a lot of stuff on the internet you can't find anywhere else

It's an enormous collective database of human knowledge that almost everybody has access to. There has never been anything like it in human history. So, yeah, I'd say it's a good thing.
It all depends on what you use it for.
The OP implies I have a life in the first place.
depends
Why are you basically asking people on the internet if the internet is a waste of time?
Why would it take away from life?

I decided that I wanted to know how to build one for myself, so with the help of the internet I became perfectly competent and knowledgeable in this area in just under a months worth of free time. If I decided that I wanted to learn how to do take apart and reassemble a car, I could do that too. The internet: :iia:

exactly
Internet adds to my life, no mather what other mays says, but the time I spent on the web is well spent, I talk with friends, plan things ahead, look up things I didn't know what they were or meant, get smarter, get my english even better then it is. And it does much more. It's better to learn things from the internet and discuss with people then just watching a damn TV when you're bored or when nobody's around. In short, I learnt english, learnt basic mecanics, learnt some programming language, became smarter, leanrt a shitload of things, made new friends(The best I could ever wish for) and much more. Edit: When someone says "The internet is useless, it's better to pass your time doing useless crap with fakefriends outside" I can't help but think that by passing time on the web, while still having a good social life, just makes me smarter.
i've learnt stuff using the internet but i waste time on the internet ie, it's half 1am right now
The internet has added a lot to society in general, BUT it has also drained the souls from many (such as myself) due to the addiction. Think about it; why leave your house when you can talk to your friends, shop, and even order food to your house online?

heh I learned how to play guitar on the internet
Depends on your definition of life. Think of it this way. You could call the internet is an incredible achievement. Nothing throughout history compares to the immense knowledge base the internet serves as. Thousands of new web pages are created every hour and anybody with a small sum of money can invest in a computer and an internet connection, granting themselves the ability to satisfy any trivial curiosity they fancy with a few clicks of a mouse. Millions of books can be read and downloaded from the internet, many for free. News can be read for free, as soon as it is reported. Huge collaborative collections of videos and photographs are now possible, and accessible for free. You can talk to someone, or multiple people simultaneously from all over the world, instantly. Vast numbers of new jobs have opened up since the advent of the internet, and items can be browsed, purchased and delivered with practically no effort on your part. Are these good things though? Don't these things make us somehow less human? Is it not depressing that knowledge, being freely and easily accessible, now has no value whatsoever? And why visit your relative in France when you can chat to them online? Why form your own opinions and indulge in your own intrinsic, human curiosity when you can read a Top 10 list and skip the journey in the middle. Why spend time with your friends, why face your social problems or emotional issues when you can hide them behind text. I haven't really thought much on the subject, so I'm probably overestimating the negatives quite a bit. I'm not going to take either side. I use the internet. I use it to learn, and I have the resources learn things people my age would never even of even dreamt of learning before the mid 20th century. Whether that is a good thing or not I do not know.

Ugh. Furries.
:smug:
The internet is fun, but there's also such a thing as too much fun. I try my best to use it only a little while every day. (Un)fortunately, there's Facepunch.
