for about the last month my macbook pro 15' has been getting slower and slower. it went from barely noticeable to about a minute long full-stop load whenever i click on a song on itunes, and I used to be able to run Itunes, Safari, Photoshop and transmission all at once. I've tried an artifact, and a full install, an erase and install, did a full malware scan, and even opened it up and check all the connections to the hard drive and ram cards but to no avail. any Idea what could be causing this? it's almost to a point of being unusable.
If you've already done a full install, do an erase and install from the install disc as it'd likely be a user specific issue that was carried over and just got worse.

sorry, i forgot to put that in the OP, but I've tried that as well. I'll fix that.
I had the same issue. Eventually it just got god awful slow and then wouldn't start up when I started it up. I brought it to the Apple Store and they put a new hard drive in and now it runs like a mexican across the border. I'd suggest getting a new HD, or bringing it to the Apple Store.

If it's the same issue, check to see that the SMART status isn't failing in disk utility and just run an AHT to be sure we haven't got blatant hardware issue -- otherwise, you've got one persistent pain in the ass going on :)
Well it is still under warranty so, I guess I'll take it in. I hoping to fix it myself and save the trip to the apple store, oh well labor of love.
EDIT:
ok I'll check/run that now and get back to you.
It helps immensely if you confirm that it's a hardware issue before taking it in (which my last post should confirm), otherwise a service provider will charge you money since you didn't call up AppleCare.
If you've done everything here, that is in fact everything telephone support will ask you to do.

And how does one do this? I'm having the same issue as op.
Run disk utility.
Or download IceClean or Onyx. Either will do.

Grab the "Install Disc 1" for OSX that came with the machine, pop it in, reboot and hold down "C" a second before the Apple chime and let go at the spinning gear. It'll boot to the install DVD and eventually get to a screen that says "Use english as the main language". Hit the arrow and wait for the top toolbar to load.
Then click on Utilities -> Disk Utility, click on your HDD on the left hand side and check the SMART status on the bottom right hand side, then verify disk and perhaps the permissions too. After that's done, restart the machine and hold SHIFT at the Apple chime to boot into safe mode. This takes longer than normal and does a bit of a disk cleanup.
If the issue persists, try in a new user account.
Oh, wow, you've got it covered.

Not quite, if it doesn't persist in a new user then try holding the SHIFT key while the gear is spinning at boot before the blue screen until it goes into your user (assuming automatic login is on, otherwise hold shift as you login) and this will temporarily disable login items for that session. If that works fine, it's a 3rd party issue that doesn't require an install of OSX!
Just thought I'd pop in and say I took my laptop in to apple today, dropped it off, came back a few hours later and it's working as good as she did on day one.

Zero out and install no doubt :)
