Nah man. My cities will run on gas guzzlers for transportation, not them eclectic car shits.
[SUB][SUB]But first I need SimCity...[/SUB][/SUB]
I think having real life products in a simulation game is pretty cool.

people call me a literal cumhose for this, but sometimes ads in games are fucking radical if they make sense
like the convention center in RSV2, all of those MLG ads made sense because you're in a convention center with videogames.
[editline]2nd April 2013[/editline]
also it's a way for pubs/devs to get basically free cashmoney

I remember playing Saints Row 2 once, and the billboards near the Phillips Building were advertising some show on Fox.

And on the plus side you got to shoot up an MLG convention. Win all around really.

True. Billboards in the Need for Speed games always made sense to me but people still complained about them. I find this Sim City thing kind of funny, but it fits the game so I don't see a problem with it.
FYI this was in the game code since launch. It was discovered about 2 weeks ago.
tell me when they add the nuclear missle silos, nuclear reprocessing facilities, and nuclear repositories, along with nuclear research facilities, and nuclear powered car dealerships, thatd make a good dlc
I actually want more companies to put their ads in games like Sim City
Adds to that realism feel
tell me when they add the nuclear missle silos, nuclear reprocessing facilities, and nuclear repositories, along with nuclear research facilities, and nuclear powered car dealerships, thatd make a good dlc
I'd buy it

EA handed out a free game, dude. Good ones. Like Bejeweled 3.
its the bigass NISSAN text in bright red that kills it for me

Yeah, completely out of place product placement that doesn't even function correctly
~woohOoOo
Shouldn't be too hard to retexture it to something else.
Shouldn't be too hard to retexture it to something else.
and then you get banned from the game
Yeah, completely out of place product placement that doesn't even function correctly

a city game
where you control a city
that emits pollution
where people live
in a capitalist country that thrives on consumerism
yeah product placement + advertisements + environmentally friendly nissan cars are totally out of place
[editline]2nd April 2013[/editline]
and then you get banned from the game
watch as nissan sues your ass if you rexture the cars to be honda or ford or something
EA put a Best Buy in Tiberium Wars.
It was fun to purge it with flametanks.
the Charging Station will not take power
So, how does it work?
people call me a literal cumhose for this, but sometimes ads in games are fucking radical if they make sense

nothing was better than the splinter cell chaos theory ads while they were working
on pc any display would show shit for current products, and none of them were intrusive whatsoever
although i enjoy it more now how they have it back to advertising pandora tomorrow, as if sam was famous
Its powered by the crushed hopes & dreams of SimCity players.
Should run forever then

I am not mad that they are giving this out for free, but attaching a political statement within it.
“The charging station will be a new destination in player’s cities where their Sims will drive their Nissan Leaf cars in order to recharge them. Once they leave, the Sims will find themselves happier. Plopping down the station will add happiness to nearby buildings. It will not take power, water, or workers away from your city. Zoom in to the streets of cities, and players will start seeing a percentage of their Sims from all wealth classes driving the electric vehicles. The station produces no garbage or sewage, as well, making it pollution free.”
“...It will not take power...electric vehicles....”
This whole thing is a MarySue in building form. The solar panels there would probably be enough to realistically power maybe 2 cars a day. Every other car is going to have to get that power from somewhere, but I guess not from your city because this free happyness producer with no downsides will just work wonders on your city for nothing at all.

Yeah, when low income populations have electric cars all over the place and there's only one real company (that's in giant red letters) it's completely out of place and makes zero sense.
Especially since the charging station doesn't even require power.
How about just keep gargling EA's cum if these are the best defenses you can come up with.

Problem with that is it doesn't take any power or require you to manage it at all and doesn't add really anything to your experience of controlling a city, it just spits out happiness with no effort required in a blatant attempt to shove advertising in the player's face.
A more accurate representation, and frankly better option is a big retarded billboard Sims stare at it makes them Happy and generates happiness and more income from commercial buildings BUT while they start as simple signs they, over time, upgrade to more elaborate displays that require more and more power to run.
I think having something that looks like Times Square at the end of the road would be pretty neat, even better if I actually contributed to making that happen, made even cooler looking by using real life advertising in a form that isn't drawing attention to itself as someone trying to make you buy shit.
You CAN have real world advertising in games, a poorly thought out hurr durr green energy buy electric cars ad disguised as a building that runs on hopes and rainbows is a shit way of doing it.
I answered this in the SH thread but it's powered by solar energy, you can see them clearly in the picture.
I answered this in the SH thread but it's powered by solar energy, you can see them clearly in the picture.
Would still have to be connected to the grid for round the clock use.

Creates an energy surplus during the day but uses more energy at night
HOLY SHIT GAMEPLAY ELEMENTS!
[editline]2nd April 2013[/editline]
Hey that's a neat idea, a Top level upgrade for the billboard displays are solar power arrays that reduce Power consumption by X%
now why the hell hasn't Maxis thought of any of this yet?

Oh right.
To be honest at that point you are probably splitting hairs. It's a game, can't it just be solar powered?
I have a much bigger problem with the big red NISSAN stamped onto your city rather than arbitrary power consumption/surplus simulations.
