Twenty-year-old Tanana resident Nathanial Kangas fired seven shots from close range into the backs of two Alaska State Troopers as they attempted to arrest his father Arvin Kangas, the Fairbanks Daily News-Miner reports, citing court documents.
Fairbanks-based troopers Sgt. Patrick “Scott” Johnson and Gabriel “Gabe” Rich died as a result of the shooting. Nathanial Kangas has been charged with two counts of first-degree murder and a third-degree assault charge. Arvin Kangas, who was arraigned Friday, has been charged with fourth-degree assault and driving without a valid license.
The younger Kangas was arraigned Saturday afternoon in Fairbanks. The local paper reported that in the courtroom “every seat was full and the walls were lined with law enforcement officers of several agencies.” If convicted, Nathanial, who Tanana locals call “Sach,” faces more than 200 years behind bars. KTUU reports the court declared Nathanial a flight risk and set bail at $4 million.

Rot in prison you fuck!
Sad to see someone in the line of duty die because of shit heads like this, glad they got him.
He murdered two state troopers because his father didn't drive with a license and fourth degree assault? (Both misdemeanors) That's just plain stupid and I feel so sorry that those state troopers were killed over such a stupid thing.
Errands when i'm 119 years old :
Get insurance
Dig my grave
Piss on this 20 year old guy dead body
Yeah my family has been going nuts over this the last couple days, being an Alaskan native I hope he never steps foot out of prison.
so are they gonna keep his corpse in the cell until the sentence is finished or what
Killing two officers because your father was going to be arrested for minor charges, that boy ain't right.

Maybe he can get a few years off for good behavior.

100 year parole.

Reminds me of the judge that sentenced someone to 2000 years in prison, then decided to be "merciful" and halve his sentence to 1000 years. :v:
Fucking copkiller.
Glad to see he's going to rot behind bars.
my mind originally parsed "AK" as meaning ak-47 and i was like "i didnt know alaska had cops that carried ak-47s"
I thought that "AK" related to polish anti-nazi resistance from WW2 and was confused as well
One thing I have never understood is why is murder of a cop considered worse than murdering a child or any other person.

It's a slap in the face of the people who enforce the law and the people who rely on said law to be enforced in order to lead a peaceful existence. If anybody can kill the cops, and they keep getting away with it, it might encourage others to try the same thing.

Hey, free decoration.

That doesn't make any sense. Why is all murder simply not punished the same?
For example why should someone who breaks into another persons home and shoots the owner in the head only get 20 years while someone who kills a cop get 200 years? Why not give the burgler/murderer 200 years too? And every other murderer.

Because the life of the cop is perceived more important than the person in the house. People don't like to talk about it, and pretend it doesn't work that way, but reality doesn't care and cases like this only further the point.

Why is exactly the same crime but racially motivated punished harder too?

How does punishing cop killers more severely reduce the number of people who get away with killing cops?

Smelly, messy decoration but hey, can't look a gift horse in the mouth!

Because cops are Civil Servants, just like Firefighters and Paramedics. They put their lives on the line to protect people and keep the streets safe. This is especially true in Alaska where their State Troopers generally patroll highways and report unsafe conditions, areas that need repairs, aggressive animals, etc.
I'm surprised something like this could happen way up North-
-- isn't everyone always so chill?
