Pretty cool. But I'm sure it only takes like 15 minutes in a video editing software to do this, rather than have this (which I have alot of doubt in because it most likely fucking sucks) do it for you.

It's more convenient.
It's more convenient.
And not everyone has video editing software/the ability to use it

If a smartphone and digital cameras has realtime facial recognition software and smile recognition, then I'm sure youtube backed by a server can handle this just fine.
Afaik this is the first new youtube feature in years that hasn't been met with a resounding 'fuck off'

This is likely the same technology that's used in google streetview, so it's likely pretty solid and will work in most cases.

Anti-Shake feature is useful as hell
only problem with this is that you're still going to be uploading the raw footage, which is likely kept somewhere so there's a chance that somebody could get a hold of the footage with unblurred faces which could potentially be quite bad

Yes. Because Google notoriously release private user data every day.

This is for people who are in a position where they want to film and make public an event quickly. The events in the middle east the past 2 years or so is a good example. They sometimes don't have the time or the resources to edit the video.
Anti-Shake feature is useful as hell
Sometimes it fucks up. And sometimes it can detect there's shaking when there isn't. It kinds does the job.

It is unlikely to suck. Google's face recognition technology on street view worked excellently IIRC, there's gunna be a few errors that make it through but google are pretty good at auto blurring.
And I don't think it would be too hard to allow a manual 'second pass' where you can point out any faces it missed, though I'm not much of a programmer.

you cant really call the previous things happening to youtube "features".
thats like calling the inability to walk after breaking your back a feature.
only problem with this is that you're still going to be uploading the raw footage, which is likely kept somewhere so there's a chance that somebody could get a hold of the footage with unblurred faces which could potentially be quite bad
I think this is a good thing because if somebody uploads footage of, say, an animal abuse act or a murder and blur their face using this, then they can still be caught and prosecuted, but if it's something like a protest in the middle east or an upload from China which goes against their rigorous screening process, then identities can be protected from the high powers in other countries who seek to abuse the publicity of youtube videos to capture and threaten innocent people.

They destroy such data
If only facebook had this feature.

Has always worked for me:

You have no idea how shaky this video originally was :v:
Is this kind of like how in Google Street View you get random signs and hubcaps that get blurred out?
Is this kind of like how in Google Street View you get random signs and hubcaps that get blurred out?
My favorite was when a creepy vaguely human statue on a balcony eventually registered as a person, so it got blurred over like a Men-In-Black style coverup.

Do you mind giving me the link to the original?

Was filmed at a zoom of 400mm, so not even the lens' anti-shake managed to keep up:

Eh so there is just an option to auto blur faces or it lets the user choose what part to blur?
More interested in the latter.

It works pretty well on Street View, which afaik uses the same thing.

Impressive :)!
I hope that all those morons who commit crimes and post them to YouTube don't wise up and block their faces out.
It's terrible that they committed the crimes, but it's nice that they're decent enough to give proof that they did it to the public.
