• Laptop Troubleshooting - Mainly charging issues

My sister's battery was old, so it was replaced with something appropriate. There are issues with charging the battery. It was plugged in for 8 hours, but only reached 74%. This, and sometimes the laptop only functions for several minutes before shutting off. There were other problems, but those are solved. I haven't had much time to look at it, but in the meantime, there could be a few problems. How could you tell if there is a bad cord? She's trying a new cord right now. The battery could be at fault too. Not sure yet. Also, I don't think she went through the proper procedure for when you get a new battery. Oh well, she'll just have to deal with less battery life.
New batteries can take that long to charge the first time, but if it isn't getting past a certain percentage, it could be bad. And when you get a new battery, you must make sure the voltage of the new battery matches the voltage of the old battery, or you're going to end up with problems or potential damage to the laptop.
