• Need ideas to make a square into an animal that will tessellate.

For art I have to use a square and cut off other sides and put them onto another side. It has to be turned into a living thing and able to tessellate grid paper. I have no idea what to make, does anybody have any tutorials or something?
It's a lot easier if you look at tessellation like a rorschach test instead of trying to make an animal tessellate. Just make a cool shape and think of an animal it looks like.
It's quite easy to make something tessellate if you just mirror it on all sides, as long as that's okay. You can do it with pretty much anything. I'll make a mock-up in a second. Here, just take any normal image, can be anything. All the limbs and such have to fit into crevices and completely cover the surface. Just cut some random shape and create from that.
Make a turtle

Take a rectangle, cut shapes off one side, paste them onto the other side. Draw the animal afterwards.
There's software that lets you draw tessellations in real-time. This page lists a few: http://www.tessellations.org/links.htm
Usually Elephants are easy to tesselate - Give them a square head with a rectangular trunk and you can make a really good result from it (sorry no examples)
