On 03/07/12 an 80 year old female resident of the City of Yonkers was the victim of a phone fraud. She received a phone call telling her that her grandson was in a car accident and had been arrested for Driving Under Influence. The caller stated he was a representative of her grandson’s insurance company, and explained to her that the damage to her grandson’s car had already been paid for by them, and that if she sent the payment amount back to the insurance company, they would not press charges and he would be released. The woman was told to go to Western Union and send $4,800.00 to an address St. Lucia. When she asked why the money was going to St. Lucia, he explained that that is where the insurance company's headquarters was, and it must be sent there in order to be processed immediately. She was also told to put her grandson’s name on the Western Union money order, so that the claim would be processed quickly. With the money transfer fees included, this victim lost a total of $5,041.00.
Please remind all of your elderly family members and neighbors that they should not wire money to anyone without consulating with the police or a family member first. This fraud is not new but it seems to be ocurring more frequently throughout Westchester County and Yonkers.

Shit sucks, Espically happening in my city.
Well, come on. Just because someone says you owe them money doesn't mean you should just give it to them.

Oh gosh, my grandma received this EXACT phone call in Arizona last week.
She nearly had a heart attack because when she picked up the phone and heard a voice she asked "Colleen?". My sister's name, and the scammer picked it up from there saying Colleen has been in a car accident, and my grandma nearly gave them the cash out of panic.
Whoever does this is a terrible person.

You aren't a science teacher and this is not a classroom.
