Cant wait to play some..
players won’t be able to unlock full games with their amiibo as there will be a time limit
oh...
holy shit wow
so you give them money, and in exchange, instead of just giving you games from the 1980s for free, they bait you to give them more money
wtf
raised my hopes then dashed them expertly
bravo
Oh joy they're still pushing the "masterpieces" thing.
Nintendo seriously needs a service where you pay monthly, like Netflix, for access to the entire NES/SNES library, or whatever developers they can get on-board for the service.

That would be too much of a good idea for Nintendo to implement.

Especially considering Nintendo hasn't even released many of their own NES and SNES games on the Wii U Virtual Console. I don't really understand why they use this trickle system for VC releases when this surely just makes people stop checking the VC release list out of being tired of constant disappointment. They're sitting on a gold mine (especially if they translated some of their Japanese-only Famicom and Super Famicom games, which would interest many of the people that want the VC games anyway) yet refuse to use it. (Which is strange considering they had a solid lineup on the Wii's Virtual Console, though that also suffered from trickling out games and is sorely barren on the N64 games)
“We hope that when you tap your amiibo, the quickly changing game scenes will pleasantly surprise you and make you feel as though you have just exchanged a game cartridge,” Iwata said
Except when I bought Super Mario Bros 3 (under $10), I got the full game.
which can easily justify their $13 price tag
Hahaha.
I have absolutely no problem with collectors, but these things are just a money sucking plague that have replaced shelves with actual games and replace them with these humps of shite.
To be honest, I can see why they did it this way. (sort of)
Some person might tap his amiibo on a dozen wii U's and give them the game.

That's pretty harsh. $13 isn't that bad for a cheap figure like this.
To me, the actual figure is the reason to own it, and the NFC stuff is just a bonus.
I can't believe how fucking atrocious the VC is. They didn't properly transfer between systems, get drip-released, and cost way too much. I mean, fuck, I can't even play SNES games on my 3DS, why? Why can't it do that? Why do I have to play GBA games on my Wii U?
I think the worst offender is the shit GBA yoshis island is on VC but not the original. Fuckin Nintendo.

Pretty sure that it's a licensing issue with the Super FX chip. Same reason that Star Fox SNES never made it on to the VC.
The GBA version is fine.

Granted, the owner of the Super FX chip (Argonaut Games) is defunct, so they should be able to afford the rights to it easily should they be able to get in contact with the team (which, though not all by Nintendo, was how many games by defunct companies eeked onto the Virtual Console).
Duck hunt costs 5$ for a digital copy.
do you know what else you can get for 5$?

As much of a nice little bonus as this sounds, it's also pretty useless along with everything everyone else has said. I mean, when am I just going to decide, "Wow, I feel like playing 3 minutes of Megaman 1!"? I don't think anyone will ever use this more than once, if ever.
I will say though the pikmin 3 demo was extremely fair
they allowed you to run it 30 times, idk how much you could play, but from what I saw a decent amount. and it was the ACTUAL game, too.
this is like, the opposite of that.
You know, emulation is always an option if you guys dislike the Virtual Console. No paying for long obsolete video games there.

How about this. If you use your amiibo for first time, you get full game. Any other times you get chunks like they are doing now. Hell even if one person does swipe his amiibo multiple times, so fucking what? It's just an old s/nes game. At this point imo they should be free.

Uh wasn't the GBA version way better because it had more levels and less glitches and better audio quality?
[editline]e[/editline]
I've only ever played the GBA version personally so I'm saying this based on youtube videos of the snes version that I've seen, I could be wrong.
We should be glad that we actually got the superior Yoshi's Island instead of the very very shitty looking ports of Donkey Kong Country 2 and 3.

It had 6 additional levels and the Yoshi sound effects from Yoshi's Story, but it also removed some effects that would have been too subtle for the GBA screen (but would be noticeable on a television), poorer sound effect and music quality (due to the GBA buffer being really poor for sound usage), and a much brighter and washed out palette due to the lack of backlighting on the GBA screen, not to mention a much, much lower resolution than it's SNES counterpart. In addition, screen warping effects like those used in the lava surfing area and touching fuzzies are completely butchered in the GBA version, causing blocks of the screen to rise and lower instead of a smooth, swooshing effect like in the original.
It's nice to know Nintendo's supporting piracy of their video games!
Why else would they keep away most of their NES/SNES titles from the store and do things like this? Oh, sure, they might say they don't like piracy, but their actions don't reflect their opinions.
Well if it was unlimited, you'd be able to just borrow someone else's amiibo and unlock it on your Wii U for free. I can kind of see why they did this.

The reason they keep releasing the GBA version over the original is that re-releasing the SNES version would involve paying royalties to Argonaut Software over the Super FX chip, and Argonaut no longer exists. It's easier to just release the GBA version.

Make it limited? Or don't. So what if one amiibo is used to unlock 4 copies of a game over 10-20 years old? Nintendo is printing money and yet they're so uptight about ancient games. Instead they give you random demo slices which for a company as big as Nintendo is pretty damn poor.

You're underestimating the amount of shitbaggery this would bring about. People would start selling Amiibo-unlocked games, scalping even more Amiibo and selling them for even higher prices than before, etc. The way the whole Amiibo thing is going now is proof of that.

I have no idea how Wii U works, how the hell can you sell games you unlock there?

Doing it physically in an area close to you. I know it sounds dumb but I sure as shit know some people will crank up the fuckstick levels and do it.
