My perfect moba is dota without bullshit rng
I do, it's called Dota.
Well, I've found DotA Allstars to be my favourite ARTS.
My perfect moba is dota without bullshit rng
a lot of dota 2's RNG abilities have been moved to PRG.
a lot of dota 2's RNG abilities have been moved to PRG.
what the hell is prg?
I am 100% sure that the perfect MOBA won't have a EA sticker on it.
what the hell is prg?
I think he probably means PNG (Persistant Number Generation), which is essentially a fancy name for "consistent results"
By perfect, I assume he means Call of Duty perfect, which is not perfect, but it sells very, very well. [editline]22nd May 2013[/editline] And can be repeated and milked multiple times.
Pseudo random, low chances that raise each time you don't get a proc.
Eh, the whole territory and node control thing doesn't sound as rewarding as caving in the skulls of enemy creeps. Besides, if I want to play a game of territorial domination I'll just play any pure RTS game out there.
I do, it's called Dota.
No, DotA is far from perfect, it has some questionable design choices. LoL isn't so perfect either and still needs to grow. But I doubt Dawngate will be any closer. [editline]22nd May 2013[/editline] I think MOBAs will expand to have different variants like SMNC but that's dipping into other genres. As for the core DotA-esque gameplay style, I don't think we'll have anything that can contest DotA2/LoL in the imminent future.
I'm curious to check this out. I like all the games in the moba genre.
I've always wanted to have a MOBA style game with no items, just abilities, good tactics and teamwork
Good luck developing a game where despite your efforts people will constantly complain that everyone and everything is overpowered.
No, DotA is far from perfect, it has some questionable design choices.
like what?
Heroes of Newerth. Yeah, I said it. Come at me.
No, DotA is far from perfect, it has some questionable design choices. LoL isn't so perfect either and still needs to grow.
Quite frankly I don't think anything can ever really be perfect. Especially not video games, there will always be flaws. 10/10 games just don't exist.
Quite frankly I don't think anything can ever really be perfect. Especially not video games, there will always be flaws. 10/10 games just don't exist.
Unless you're IGN of course.
No Moba is perfect. Much like no game is truly perfect. Perfect isn't really a great term when describing games tbh.
like what?
I don't want to turn this thread into a DotA discussion thread but I'm just gonna say RNG on Axe's Counter Helix. I'm not saying DotA is poorly designed and I'm not 100% qualified to pick it apart but I really hate it when people say DotA is 100% godsend perfect. [editline]22nd May 2013[/editline] I don't have the links on me but Nome (The guy who used to work on HoN) talked about game design in DotA and I found it quite interesting. [editline]22nd May 2013[/editline] Well I found them but again I don't really want to derail this thread.

You listed a single ability without saying what exactly is wrong with it, you must know your shit. You're also pretty clearly biased towards LoL.
Because we’ve seen a lot of similarities in design. [In mid-‘90s shooters] there was a lot of recreation of design over and over again, and then the genre just exploded - larger maps and larger team sizes, vehicles and verticality, all these different dimensions came into gameplay.
And now we've gone back to arcadey shooters with ~realism~ plastered all over it again. The cycle of life. You listed a single ability without saying what exactly is wrong with it, you must know your shit. You're also pretty clearly biased towards LoL.
And you're not biased to Dota for saying Dota is absolutely perfect?
what the hell is prg?
Pseudo Random, I'm guessing.
like what?
The fact that somebody can mess with my items while they're in the courier. I lost a 2.7k gold item once because I got it with the courier at the secret shop but the bell-end who I called out on his bullshit earlier on decided it was hilarious to take the courier to the edge of the map and drop my item outside of it.
Nothing's perfect.

Infact, practice what you preach because you explicitly claimed that DotA was perfect which would be a highly biased and inaccurate statement.
I've tried LoL and some DOTA2, and I still don't see how MOBAs are built for anything but frustration. Such small teams for such long rounds with such huge snowballing potential just seems like a recipe for tears. * Got a terrible team? Well shit, there's no autobalance or drop-in-drop out and since everyone's shouldering a lot of responsibility, you don't get away with just leaving either. * Screwed up early game because your lasthitting/denying sucks? Welp, hope you don't mind that guy completing his first advanced item while you need a drink back at basecamp. Pray that the flat number advantage isn't big enough for snowballing you into the ground yet. * Wanna try out a different char? Hope you like wiki articles, 'cause those filthy casual guides don't even cover counter strategies for every possible opponent configuration and laning partners you could encounter. * Ready for a teamfight? Just close your eyes, pull off your combo and hope you aren't stunned, 'cause otherwise that color chaos will melt your eyes right off. Who knows, maybe you'll survive and you get the honor of chasing some helpless wounded deserter through the woods. Okay as condescending as all that might sound, I'm not actually hating on MOBAs. Just having difficulty understanding why people stick with it. Not so much difficulty why most of the core community that does stick with it is full of bratty hard-asses tho. One guy underperformes and there go 30-60m of your free time, nothing you can really do about that. None of your experience matters if your team doesn't hold together as well or if you're flat-out outleveled. I do like the basic idea behind MOBAs as a simplified hero-heavy strategy game tho.
I think it would be incredibly immature to say "Well MY favourite MOBA is the best obviously!!!". Who knows, maybe a new one will come out that will be incredibly well made and become the most played. Still, I doubt it'll come from EA.
People play them for their depth, tight team based gameplay and competitive nature. Unfortunately yes this brings out the worst in people as someone else doing bad can directly affect you. It's digging for that gold nugget that is a friendly/good team in a pile of shit though if you don't play with friends.
mobas are in a fine state its the godawful toxic community that makes the games compelte shit [editline]21st May 2013[/editline] playing against laid back, friendly players in mobas is probably the best gaming experience i can imagine, while playing against shitlords is the complete opposite
