Last of Us movie will feature rehashed plot from game
Joel and Ellie, the protagonists of The Last of Us, aren’t actually the last people on Earth, despite what the title suggests. The video game is set in a broken-down, overgrown vision of America twenty years after a devastating viral outbreak, and as such there are many different stories that could be set within the same world. Speaking to IGN at the BAFTA Game Awards last night (where The Last of Us finished very much on top with five awards, including Best Game, Best Story and Best Performer), Druckmann confirmed that the movie will stick with the same story as the video game.
“It’s an adaptation of the story of The Last of Us. As far as where we go and how we make it fit into a film, how it takes into account the unique properties of film… We’re not sure yet. We’re only just scratching the surface.”.
And thus Hollywood continues the trend of pointless adaptions, remakes, reboots and unoriginal ideas. 4 years from now, Gravity will get a reboot called 'Physics 3D', and it involves a mishap between two waste management workers and a port-a-potty and it'll win Best Picture,
I don't mind that. The game's story was good.
As happy as I am that they aren't going to ruin the story by making a sequel or prequel, I'm a little disappointed that they're not going to explore the world a bit more by having some new characters / story.
Still interested to see how it turns out though.
I'm a bit torn on this. On one hand, Neil Druckmann is writing the script. On the other hand, Sam Raimi.
Too early to tell anything, but for me at least, this could be surprisingly good or expectantly bad.
A rehashed plot of a rehashed plot. Let's see where this goes.
It's going to be terrible
Will the studio have enough resolve to not use Ellen Page? Tune in next time to find out
I don't see the point of doing a rehash of the main story. Like, forgive me if I'm wrong, but isn't the original game already pretty cinematic anyway?

they won't be able to afford ellen page. this movie is going to be fucking terrible

The last of us plot was awesome, what are you talking about? There are no completely original plot lines anymore if you're looking for something completely unique.

It was, but where's the fun in watching the same story again? Especially considering Last of Us was already pretty cinematic.
But the game was practically a movie already.

you can experience it without having to trudge through the gameplay again
tbh the gameplay in LoU mostly took a backseat. Really only served as a vehicle to get you from one part of the story to the next. it's just kinda there.
i had fun with tlou's gameplay although i guess you could say i was definitely playing for the story

I agree.
The game really focused on the story, but really fell short when it came to gameplay. Within the first hour, i had already grown tired of the game itself, but kept on playing just to see the story
People would never be satisfied with a movie adoption, I swear.
They change the plot: "Why did they change that, this is terrible."
They keep the plot: "This is the same as the game, what's the point?"

"Why didn't they try a new storyin the same universe?"

Except for Those of Us who don't own a console, and so can't play the game because they refuse to make a PC port.
I get it if you want to make a movie about Space Invaders or whatever, but if the game is already like a movie from the get-go, what's the point to make it again?
wait but i already watched the last of us on youtube

I suppose it depends on who you're talking to.
Personally, I feel that the movie has to have enough difference to be distinguishable, but not be incredibly different. Like, have the same feel to the game so you know you're watching an adaption, but not something completely different or the same thing again.
The story of the game was amazing. Maybe it wasn't the most unique, but what is really unique anymore?
The characters were also great, but movie of a cinematic game is pointless and it will probably be terrible.

That's the biggest load of bullshite I've ever fucking heard. Someone literally said that about scientific advancement in 1900 and they were just as wrong as you are now.
Just hope they don't ruin this just as bad as max payne movie was ruined
They're going to fuck up somewhere along the way and change something that should never have been changed.
Sort of like how the Doom movie, based on a videogame that revolved around demons from Hell, had the plot focus on escaped mutants or something.
This just seems dumb and pointless now. The right way to do have done this would be to make up a completely different story set in the same world, that would actually be interesting.
ye but ppl crying about making changes or deviating in any way from d original r fucking crybabies

see: iron man 3 mandarin twist
The Iron Man 3 plot twist was fucking retarded because it retconned Iron Man 1 and 2. It was also stupid for them to turn Extremis into whatever it was in the movie when it would have been better to just use Ezekel Stain as the main villian because he basically does everything in that movie
What are the odds people would be complaining even more if they made it completely different
they're making a movie into another movie with the same plot
i watched this several years ago, it's called Children of Men
